Public Notice: The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has issued the Currency Directives, 2025, which re-enforce the legal requirement that domestic transactions must be settled in Zambian Kwacha in line with Section 18 of the BoZ Act. The Directives take effect on December 26, 2025.

In February 2024, the Bank announced that it was considering taking measures to operationalise the use of the Kwacha and Ngwee for domestic transactions. This announcement was followed by extensive countrywide consultative meetings with different stakeholder groups from various sectors, including mining, manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, financial, and Government. This consultative process enabled relevant stakeholders to not only be aware of the Directives before they came into effect, but to also deliberate and contribute to shaping the final provisions which have now been issued.

The AfreximBank Academy (AFRACAD) in partnership with The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) are pleased to invite you to the Webinar Session themed: ā€œCombating Financial Crimes and Emerging Threats: Strengthening the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism Framework Across the African Regionā€ scheduled to hold as follows:
Date: Tuesday, December 2, 2025

Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (WAT) (12pm Cairo Time)
Venue: Zoom Teleconferencing (Online)
Participation: Free (Registration Required)

Financial crimes—particularly money laundering and terrorism financing—remain some of the most pervasive threats to Africa’s economic stability, governance structures, and security landscape. As African countries deepen efforts to curb illicit financial flows and enhance AML/CFT resilience, the need for a coordinated regional platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaboration has become urgent.
This Advocacy Dialogue aims to bring together key stakeholders across the continent to examine emerging risks, strengthen institutional capacity, and develop actionable strategies that advance financial integrity and support sustainable economic development.

The discussions will focus on identifying and analysing the key drivers of financial crimes and emerging threats in Africa, enhancing understanding of existing AML/CFT frameworks and their gaps, strengthening institutional capacity for detecting, reporting, investigating, and prosecuting financial crimes, building regional cooperation and improving cross-border intelligence sharing, and developing practical strategies to reduce illicit financial flows and safeguard Africa’s economies.

We believe your participation will greatly enrich the discussions and contribute meaningfully to the collective goal of strengthening Africa’s resilience against financial crimes.
