Important VAT Update

From 01 April 2026, the mandatory VAT registration threshold will increase from R1 million to R2.3 million.

This is good news for many small businesses, as it may improve cash flow. However, please take note of the following:

• The new threshold applies from 01 April 2026 onwards

• The previous threshold of R1 million still applies to all periods before this date

If your turnover reached R1 million or more before April 2026, you are still required to register for VAT for that period.

Please ensure your records are up to date and remain compliant.

SARS is now working with government departments to ensure tax compliance with all companies, and if your company is found to be non-compliant SARS can request the government departments to directly debt from your invoice to pay over your SARS outstanding debts.
