π° Did you know not every payment you receive is automatically taxable?
Many business owners assume every rand that enters their bank account counts as taxable income - but that's not always the case.
For example:
βοΈ A loan from the bank isn't taxable income.
βοΈ Money you invest into your own business isn't considered business income.
βοΈ Customer deposits may need different accounting treatment depending on the circumstances.
Understanding the difference can help you keep accurate financial records and avoid costly mistakes. When in doubt, ask us at [email protected] before making assumptions.

π¨ Auto-assessed by SARS? Don't assume it's 100% correct.
If you received an automatic tax assessment this month, you can now submit a corrected return if anything is missing or incorrect.
One of the biggest items taxpayers overlook?
Retirement annuity (RA) contributions.
Missing these could mean missing out on valuable tax deductions.
Before accepting your assessment:
βοΈ Review all income and deductions
βοΈ Check that your RA contributions have been captured correctly
βοΈ Make any necessary corrections to avoid leaving money on the table
A quick review could make a big difference to your tax refund. Contact us at [email protected] for any inquiries.

βοΈ Travelling to or from South Africa? Take note of this important SARS update.
From 1 July 2026, all travellers entering or departing South Africa by air, land, sea, or rail are required to complete the SARS Online Traveller Declaration before travelling.
This new Customs requirement applies to:
βοΈ South African citizens
βοΈ Permanent residents
βοΈ Foreign nationals
βοΈ Business travellers
βοΈ Children and infants (completed by a parent or legal guardian)
The declaration must be completed within 24 hours before travel and can be submitted online via the SARS Traveller Management System or the South African Traveller Management System (SATMS) mobile app.
Travellers should also ensure they understand the applicable Customs declaration requirements and duty-free allowances before travelling. Completing the declaration in advance will help avoid unnecessary delays at ports of entry and departure.

Tax season is around the corner - and so are the scammers.
As SARS begins auto-assessments from 1 July 2026 and tax filing opens on 13 July 2026, be cautious of emails and SMSs claiming to be from SARS. Scammers often take advantage of this time of year by sending fake refund notifications, settlement demands, letters of demand, and auto-assessment notices.
Before clicking any links or sharing personal information, always verify that communications are genuinely from SARS.
Stay alert. Stay protected.
