RECEIVING A SARS AUTO-ASSESSMENT CAN MAKE TAX SEASON FEEL EFFORTLESS, but before you accept it, take a closer look 🔎

A SARS auto-assessment is generated using information received from third parties, such as your employer, bank, medical scheme and retirement fund. While this information is often accurate, it may not reflect your complete tax position. Missing income, overlooked deductions or incorrect third-party data can all affect the outcome.

Before accepting your assessment, ask yourself:

• Have all your income sources been included?
• Are all eligible deductions reflected?
• Are your IRP5, medical aid, retirement annuity and investment certificates accurate?
• If applicable, have rental income, foreign income or travel claims been considered?

Remember, even if SARS prepares the assessment, you remain responsible for ensuring it is complete and correct. Reviewing it now could save you time, money and unnecessary complications later.
