Employee's Tax (PAYE) on your Pension and Annuity for the Tax Period 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027
SARS has introduced changes to how PAYE is calculated for pensioners and individuals receiving annuities.
Here’s what you need to know 👇
1. PAYE will now be calculated on TOTAL income
SARS will take all your income sources into account (pension, annuity, other income) and apply a fixed PAYE rate.
2. More accurate monthly tax deductions
SARS will:
✔ Calculate a higher, more accurate PAYE %
✔ Send this rate to your pension/annuity provider
✔ PAYE will automatically be deducted monthly
3. What does this mean for you?
⚠️ Your monthly income may be slightly lower
BUT…
✔ You’ll avoid a large tax bill at year-end
✔ No more surprises from SARS
4. You can OPT OUT
You may opt out if:
✔ You already manage your tax via provisional tax
✔ You are saving for your tax liability
Otherwise, it's best to stay in the system. 👍
5. Don’t panic about higher PAYE
Yes, the deduction may feel higher than usual, but it is designed to balance your tax correctly over the year.
💬 Not sure how this affects you?
Feel free to reach out — I’m happy to review your situation and guide you.

📢 BIG TAX UPDATE – VAT Threshold Increased! 🇿🇦
Following the 2026 Budget Speech, SARS has increased the VAT registration threshold for the first time in over a decade! 🎉
This means that many small businesses will now only need to register for VAT once their turnover exceeds R2.3 million, instead of the previous R1 million threshold that hadn’t changed in years. This gives businesses more breathing room before compulsory VAT registration.
✔ VAT registration threshold increased
✔ Relief for smaller and growing businesses
✔ Important timing for planning cash flow & compliance
If your business is approaching the new threshold, now is a great time to review your tax planning and speak to your accountant. 📊
Stay informed, stay compliant! 💼🇿🇦
