Oil prices climbed 🛢️📈 as fears of a widening Iran war intensified into its fifth week, raising global supply concerns 🌍. Gold steadied 💰 near R4 500 amid ongoing uncertainty. Locally 🇿🇦 the FTSE/JSE All Share Index is heading for its worst month since 2008 📉, pressured by weaker emerging-market demand and declining mining stocks. Despite all of this, the good news is that the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) held the repo rate steady at 6.75% 📊. Motorists are rushing to fill up ⛽ ahead of a R10.34 per litre increase, with diesel supply tightening. On the infrastructure front ⚡ the City of Johannesburg and City Power Johannesburg have launched the first phase of an EV charging network 🚗. Meanwhile 💧 Cape Town dam levels have dropped below 50% as water usage exceeds targets, but with the long weekend ahead, a shorter week and some well-earned family time offer a welcome reset.

December is for jolling, but January is for surviving, right? 😅

We all know the struggle: mid-December salary gets swallowed by holidays, and then you're trying to stretch the last cent until end-Jan. That "Janu-worry" is real, Yoh!

But listen, a little planning now can make a massive difference. Here’s your 3-step plan to avoid the January financial blues:

1.✍️ PAY JANUARY FIRST: As soon as that December salary lands, immediately transfer money for January’s bond/rent, electricity, and school fees. Your future self will thank you.

2. ✍MAKE A "JUST JANUARY" BUDGET: Write down ONLY what you need for January essentials; groceries, petrol, data, school stuff. Keep it separate from your festive spending.

3. ✍START A "JANU-WORRY JAR": Even R200-R500 saved now can be a lifesaver for surprises later. It’s your buffer for peace of mind.

Your financial wellness is the foundation for everything else. Let’s start 2026 on the front foot 👣with less stress and more control.
