Let’s talk about money. Let’s get it all out in the open.

Because only once you make the mindshift that money is just a currency, where you get to decide how it works for you, can you unlock its potential to realise the life you want to lead.

Why Your Plan Needs a Blank Corner | Kim Potgieter 03/09/2026

I make a vision board every year and set my intentions. I like knowing where I’m going.

Kate Turkington reminded me that every vision board needs a blank corner too, a little space for spontaneity and for life to surprise you.

What does it mean to live fully, at every age?

In our latest episode of Life Chapters, Money Choices, Still Saying Yes, Kim Potgieter and Michael Avery are joined by Kate Turkington, broadcaster, travel writer, author and one of South Africa’s most recognisable voices in travel and media.

Nearly 92, Kate continues to travel, write, explore and say yes to experiences that keep life rich and interesting.

This conversation is about so much more than adventure. It touches on childhood memories, integrity, reputation, planning, uncertainty and the importance of not allowing our worlds to become too small.

Kate’s stories remind us that while planning has its place, life also asks us to stay open. To notice joy. To remain curious. To make room for the unexpected.

And perhaps most simply, to ask ourselves: what could I still say yes to? 🎧▶️ Listen here: https://charteredwealth.co.za/podcast/life-chapters-money-choices-episode-28-still-saying-yes/

Happy Women’s Day 💐

Today, I’m celebrating the women who keep showing up.

The women who care deeply, lift others up, make difficult decisions with courage, and keep going through life’s changes with grace, resilience and hope.

Thank you for all the ways you make a difference in the lives of others. I hope you feel celebrated today.

When does helping become too much? | Kim Potgieter 27/07/2026

There is a fine line between supporting your adult children and creating dependency.

Most parents help from a place of love. We want to make life easier. We want to step in when life is hard.

But there is also a difference between helping someone through a difficult chapter and taking responsibility for their financial independence.

I’ve seen parents delay retirement, deplete savings, or risk becoming financially dependent on the very children they are trying so hard to support.

Supporting our children can be one of the greatest joys of being a parent, but it is worth pausing long enough to ask: is this helping their future and protecting yours?

The future doesn’t need more machines in the room.
It needs more rooms like this one!

Filled with curiosity, courage, laughter and deeply human connection.

What would happen to your family if you died last night?

Most of us avoid that question. We would rather talk about holidays, home renovations or almost anything other than death and money.

Yet this is exactly why the conversation matters.

A signed will is important, but it does not answer everything. It may not give your partner access to cash. It may not cover your retirement funds or living annuity. It may not explain why you made certain decisions, or help your family avoid confusion when emotions are already high.

Michael Avery and I speak to Financial Planning Specialist Maryanne Leicher about the difference between a will and a proper estate plan, and why putting numbers to your wishes can be one of the kindest things you do for the people you love.
