🍃South Africa Takes a Significant Step Towards Sustainability Reporting Adoption. 📃

SAICA welcomes the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission's (CIPC) Customer Notice 37 of 2026, which announces the establishment of the National Adoption Readiness Working Group (ARWG) on Sustainability Reporting.

The ARWG will play a critical role in supporting the development of a National Adoption Roadmap for the ISSB Sustainability Disclosure Standards. Backed by policy-driven imperatives, its work will focus on regulatory coherence, stakeholder engagement, materiality and assurance, reporting capacity and skills readiness, and a practical, phased approach to implementation.

SAICA has been appointed as the Secretariat of the ARWG Steering Committee, reinforcing its role in coordinating and supporting this important national initiative. In addition, SAICA will lead the Bridging and Capacity Building Technical Cluster, which will focus on strengthening the skills, knowledge and readiness required to support the transition towards sustainability reporting.

This is an important milestone for South Africa as stakeholders across government, regulators, business, investors, professional bodies, preparers, assurance providers, academia and civil society work together towards a coordinated and evidence-based approach to sustainability reporting adoption.

The journey towards sustainability reporting readiness is a collective one. Through collaboration, capacity building and meaningful stakeholder engagement, South Africa can strengthen the quality, comparability and credibility of sustainability-related information.

Empowering educators, inspiring future leaders. 🎓📚

SAICA, in collaboration with the University of the Free State (UFS) and the Free State Department of Education, recently hosted a three-day Colour Accounting Workshop for 60 Grade 8 and 9 Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) educators.

Facilitated by Charlotte and Anneliese from the UFS School of Accounting, the workshop equipped educators with innovative, visual learning techniques to make accounting concepts more accessible, engaging, and impactful in the classroom.

By strengthening educators' skills, we are helping to build a stronger pipeline of financially literate and future-ready learners.

📚✨ Inspiring Future Accountants in Mpumalanga ✨📚

On 2 September, SAICA, together with team leaders from the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), proudly launched the first SAICA Accounting Day for Grade 9 and Grade 10 learners at Sitintile High School in Nelspruit.

As an MST school specialising in Mathematics, Science and Accounting, Sitintile High School is nurturing learners with the potential to become tomorrow’s business leaders and Chartered Accountants. With all Grade 10 learners currently studying Accounting and Grade 9 learners preparing to select their senior-phase subjects, the day provided valuable insights into how these choices can shape future career opportunities.

In collaboration with the UMP Accounting Society, SAICA engaged learners on the exciting possibilities within the accounting profession, shared information about SAICA and the CA(SA) journey, highlighted pathways to university, and showcased opportunities such as the Thuthuka Bursary Fund.

By equipping learners with knowledge, inspiration, and access to opportunities, we are helping to build a pipeline of future difference makers who will contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s growth and success.
