We tell people that education is the key.

But sometimes..........................we refuse to open the door because they cannot find the piece of paper proving they were educated.

I meet adults who completed matric years ago.
Their certificate was lost during a move.

Damaged in a fire.
Never collected.
Issued under a previous surname.
Or simply disappeared somewhere between the school, the department and the person who earned it.

Then, years later, an opportunity arrives.

A job.
A learnership.
A promotion.
Further study.

And suddenly everything depends on one document.

The person says:

“I completed matric.”

The system replies:

“Prove it.”

Fair enough.

But what happens when the same system demanding the proof cannot produce the record quickly enough for the opportunity waiting today?

There are official processes for replacing certificates.
But an opportunity does not always wait for affidavits, archive searches, applications and administration.

The cruel part is that the person may have completed the education.
They may have the ability.

Because losing a certificate should not mean losing the education behind it.
And paperwork should never be allowed to erase a person’s progress.

With matric results coming out tomorrow, I want to wish all the matrics the very best of luck. To those who might not get the results they were hoping for: please don't be discouraged—this is just one chapter, and there are many ways to build a successful future.

On a more serious note, I’d like to urge parents to be extra careful when choosing private colleges. The recent news about three well-known colleges closing down shows just how common "fly-by-night" institutions and unaccredited courses have become. If a college claims to have international accreditation or charges exceptionally high fees, please do your homework. Verify their credentials before you commit to anything.
