What you need to know about SARS auto-assessments:

Before 1 July 2024 you need to ensure that your eFiling banking details are correct.

Should I accept the auto-assessment?
Unless you are 100% sure that SARS has received all your up-to-date tax certificates and you have no more deductions to claim, then no. You could possibly miss out on claiming certain deductions which may not appear on your auto-assessment.

What if I don't accept or reject the auto-assessment?
SARS will assume all is correct and accept it by default.

What if the auto-assessment was accepted and I received a refund, but I still have additional deductions to add?
You can still correct it after 14 July 2024. The difference between your auto-assessment refund and the new assessment will then be paid to you. However, if you included additional income, you might have to make a payment to SARS.

Am I still liable for penalties if I accept an incorrect auto-assessment?
Yes. It is your responsibility to ensure the accurate reporting of all income and expenses to SARS.
