π Same asset. Same facts. Different impairment.
US GAAP and IFRS test impairment differently - different triggers, different units of account, and different rules on whether a loss can ever be reversed.
Our Head of Technical, Aradhna Maharaj, breaks down the key differences across ASC 360, ASC 350 and IAS 36 - including how the same set of facts can produce an impairment under one framework and nothing under the other.

π Same numbers. Different rules.
AU-C and ISA are closely aligned, but important differences remain across group audits, going concern, key audit matters, referred-to auditors and file assembly deadlines.
Our Head of Technical, Aradhna Maharaj, breaks down where the frameworks align, where they differ and what changes when SAS 149 takes effect in December 2026.

73% of UK accounting firms are turning away work right now. Not because of a lack of clients. Because they don't have enough people to take it on.
The Advancetrack Accounting Talent Index 2026, a survey of 500 firm leaders across the UK, US, Canada and Australia, puts the scale of the problem in sharp focus. 74% of firms believe sustained workloads could push practitioners out of the profession entirely. More than a quarter of respondents said they had personally considered leaving.
This is not a temporary staffing blip. It is a structural problem, and it is directly capping revenue for UK practices of every size.
The firms finding their way through it are the ones that have rethought how they resource, not just who delivers the work, but how the entire model is built. For a growing number of UK audit and accounting firms, that means accessing qualified South African Chartered Accountants on an outsourced basis: CA(SA) and AGA(SA)-qualified professionals, trained to IAASB standards, working within your methodology, and deployable at the point of need.
At MPVR Offshore, we believe the talent gap does not have to be a growth ceiling.

π UK vs SA: How Does Capital Gains Tax Compare?
Selling an asset or business across the UK and South Africa? The tax outcome may not be what you expect.
The two systems have some important differences - from tax rates and exclusions to property, business disposals, death, emigration and capital losses.
One interesting example: π¬π§ A UK main home can potentially qualify for full Private Residence Relief, while πΏπ¦ South Africaβs primary residence exclusion is capped at R2 million.
Our Head of Technical, Aradhna Maharaj, has put together a practical guide comparing the two systems - highlighting the key differences you need to know.

π UK vs SA: How Does Company Tax Compare?
If you run a company in the UK or South Africa, how well do you really understand the tax rules on the other side?
At first glance, UK Corporation Tax and South African Corporate Income Tax might seem broadly similar. But there are significant differences - and some can have a real impact on your business's cash flow, tax bill and compliance obligations.
For example, in the UK, Corporation Tax generally isn't due until nine months and one day after the companyβs year end. In South Africa, companies generally pay towards their tax liability before the year has even finished through provisional tax.
And that's just one example.
Our Head of Technical, Aradhna Maharaj, has compiled a practical guide comparing the two systems, covering tax rates, capital allowances, trading losses, capital gains, dividends, and payment and filing deadlines.
Whether you're already operating across both countries, considering expanding into the other market, or simply want to understand how the two systems compare, this is a useful guide to have on hand.

π The biggest difference between UK and South African PAYE might surprise you.
In the UK, HMRC issues each employee with a tax code. In South Africa, no tax code is issued. Instead, employers calculate PAYE by annualising earnings, applying the relevant tax formula and rebates, then converting the result back into a monthly deduction.
And that's just one of the many differences.
Our Head of Technical, Aradhna Maharaj, has compiled a practical guide comparing PAYE in the UK and South Africa, covering tax years, rates, deductions, filing requirements and compliance deadlines.
