If I inherited R5 million at 35, I wouldn’t put all of it into a house.
Here’s how I would approach it:
🏡 Pay off a portion of my bond to bring my monthly repayments down to an amount I can comfortably afford.
📈 Invest the balance in a portfolio suited to my goals, investment timeline and appetite for risk, giving that money the opportunity to grow.
💰 Use a portion of the investment returns to help cover the remaining bond repayments, provided the portfolio can sustainably support those withdrawals.
My goal would be to reduce financial pressure today while still building wealth for the future.
But the numbers need to work together. Investment returns fluctuate, withdrawing money reduces future growth, and tax and fees affect what you actually receive.
Inherited money and unsure of your next step? Let’s build a plan around your life and goals.
This is my opinion as I believe in finding balance between living comfortably while building wealth. This is not advice and each person’s situation should be reviewed accordingly
