The myth: if it’s in a savings account, it’s “saved.”

Here’s the catch — inflation in South Africa hit 5.0% in June (the highest in two years), and most everyday bank savings accounts pay interest well below that. So while your balance is technically growing, what that money can actually buy is often shrinking in real terms.
