SARS tax season is expected to open in July 2026.
Key deadlines to remember:
โ Individual taxpayers: 23 October 2026
โ Provisional taxpayers & trusts: 22 January 2027
โ Companies: Within 12 months after financial year-end
Important changes for 2026:
โ ๏ธ SARS is moving towards digital-only filing via eFiling & the SARS MobiApp
โ ๏ธ Employers must include valid tax numbers for employees on EMP501 submissions
โ ๏ธ Expanded auto-assessments may apply to more taxpayers

Do you need to submit a tax return for the 2026 year of assessment?
Many taxpayers assume they do not need to file โ but SARS may still require a return to be submitted.
You may need to file if you are:
