Day 1 Highlights | Governance for Resilient Futures (G4FR) Policy Dialogue

Today, the Business of Salafai Association (BOSA) was proudly represented by President Maria Lamositele and Board Member P**i Tevita Tariu at the first day of the Governance for Resilient Futures (G4FR) Policy Dialogue.

The discussions focused on how Pacific nations (Samoa, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau) can strengthen governance systems to better anticipate, adapt to and respond to future challenges.

Key highlights from today’s sessions included:

🔹 Building Resilient Governance – Panelists explored the Pacific perspective on resilience, emphasizing the importance of governance systems that are forward-looking, adaptable and responsive to an increasingly uncertain global environment.

🔹 Energy Security and Risk Preparedness – Lessons from recent fuel and energy challenges highlighted the need for stronger risk management, better emergency planning, community engagement and policy reforms to improve resilience across the Pacific.

🔹 Using Data and Foresight for Better Decisions – Discussions stressed the importance of reliable data, statistics, strategic foresight and digital innovation to identify emerging risks early and support informed decision-making for sustainable development.

🔹 Policies, Budgets and Digital Transformation – Speakers shared how governments can better align policies, public investment and digital technologies to strengthen resilience, improve service delivery and prepare for future uncertainties.

🔹 Preparing the Public Service for the Future – The final session focused on developing agile and capable public institutions by investing in people, embracing digital transformation and fostering leadership that can guide institutional change.

Today’s dialogue reinforced a common message: resilience is not built by government alone. Strong partnerships between the public sector, private sector, civil society and development partners are essential to creating a stronger and more sustainable future for Samoa and the Pacific.

“It has been 15 years since the Businesses of Salafai Association (BOSA) was established. Today marks the commencement of construction work for BOSA’s new Headquarters Office at its new site at the Salelologa Market. This support has been generously provided through the kindness of the Yazaki Kizuna Foundation.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Lands for making this parcel of land available and allocating it to the Association. We also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Yazaki Kizuna Foundation for their generous support and commitment to assisting the development of our Association and the business community of Savai’i.

This milestone marks an important step forward for BOSA as it continues to serve and support entrepreneurs and businesses throughout Savai’i.”
