💰 A New Retirement Savings Benefit Is Coming in 2027!

Beginning in 2027, the federal government will introduce the Saver’s Match, a new program designed to help low- and moderate-income individuals save for retirement.

Under this program, eligible taxpayers can receive a 50% government match on up to $2,000 in retirement contributions, meaning:

✅ Up to $1,000 per individual

✅ Up to $2,000 for married couples

✅ Contributions to eligible retirement accounts, including traditional and Roth IRAs and 401(k)s, may qualify.

Who qualifies?

For 2027, the benefit phases out based on income:

📌 Single filers: $20,500–$35,500

📌 Married filing jointly: $41,000–$71,000

📌 Head of household: $30,750–$53,250

Unlike the current Saver’s Credit, which reduces the taxes you owe, the new Saver’s Match generally deposits money directly into your retirement account. This means eligible taxpayers may benefit even if they owe little or no federal income tax!

💡 Example: A qualifying married couple contributing $2,000 each to their retirement accounts could receive an additional $2,000 from the federal government!

The program begins with the 2027 tax year, with eligible taxpayers claiming their match when filing their returns in 2028.

It’s never too early to start planning for retirement!

Deadline for extended Individual (Form 1040) tax returns.

Excited to share the future home of Peter Cote – Tax Preparer, coming to 67 Main Street in Winthrop!

We still have some finishing touches to complete with the remodeling before making the move later this fall, but it’s so exciting to see the sign up and this next chapter starting to take shape.

⛳ Summer is in full swing, and just like golf… taxes are all about avoiding unnecessary hazards.

🏌️‍♂️ Hit the fairways, avoid the sand traps, and remember:
• Mulligans don’t exist with the IRS.
• A good scorecard is great—but good recordkeeping is even better.
• The only thing worse than a three-putt is forgetting to save your tax documents.

That’s why investing in SAPARS is so meaningful to me. They provide advocacy, resources and hope to survivors during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I’m proud that my business can help ensure those services remain available for the people in our community who need them most."

2. How does your business approach the idea of corporate social responsibility and supporting local survivors?
"At Peter Cote Tax Preparer, I believe corporate social responsibility means more than providing a service—it means being aware of the needs of your community and stepping in to help where you can.

This cause is especially important in our family. My wife has been a passionate advocate for survivors and the organizations that support them, and her dedication has reinforced just how vital these services are. While I hope no one ever needs them, I’m grateful they exist, and I’m committed to helping ensure they remain available. Supporting SAPARS is one way my business can give back and help strengthen the network of care available to survivors in our community."

3. What is your favorite part about being deeply rooted in our local Maine community?
"For me, it’s the relationships. As a local business owner, I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals, families and small business owners throughout our community. Over time, many of those professional relationships have grown into genuine friendships.

Being part of a local community means having the opportunity to give back in ways that extend beyond the services you provide.
