The Best Tax Opportunity might be after you retire.

Met with a couple preparing for retirement.

Most people think retirement means taxes become simpler.

Not always. And frankly, taxes are a HUGE talking point for retirees. It becomes their hobby!

Between Social Security, IRAs, Medicare premiums, and required distributions, there are a lot of moving parts.

What we found was a potential window between retirement and future required distributions that could create meaningful tax savings.

Big takeaway: Tax planning isn't a once-a-year exercise. Sometimes the biggest opportunities only appear during life transitions

Tax Planning is constant in our practice. Don't believe me? Ask me for my tax calendar!

Discover how Roth IRA conversions can support tax diversification and why future tax rates matter when planning for retirement.

Retirement IS NOT a MONEY problem. Its a TRANSITION problem.

Met with a recently retired client who has done everything right.

Saved consistently. Paid off debt. Built a solid portfolio. Has more than enough income.

Yet the biggest topic of our meeting wasn't investments.

It was UNCERTAINTY.

For 40 years, they had a schedule, purpose, coworkers, and structure. Now they wake up every day asking, What am I supposed to do?

The money wasn't causing stress. The life transition was.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself in retirement....lol

Big takeaway: Retirement planning isn't just about building wealth. Its about building the next chapter of your life.

Planning to retire in 10 years or less? Find out what you need to know and do for a smoother transition.

Most People Start Thinking About Medicare TOO LATE

Wait, procrastination is a REAL THING? NEVER would have guessed that...

Over the past few weeks, Ive had multiple conversations that started with some version of:

I thought Medicare would be simpler.

Enrollment windows.

IRMAA surcharges.

Prescription coverage.

Spousal benefits.

The number of moving pieces surprises almost everyone.

Big takeaway: The best Medicare decisions are usually made months before enrollment, not the week before your birthday.

Compare your Medicare options and help reduce out-of-pocket costs.

The Goal Is NOT a Bigger Account. The Goal is INCOME.

A retiree recently asked whether their withdrawals were sustainable. "Dave, will my $ last?"

We looked at the numbers together.

Their portfolio is generating nearly enough dividend and interest income to cover their annual spending needs.

That completely changed the conversation.

Instead of worrying about every market move, they started seeing their investments as a tool that produces cash flow.

Big takeaway: Most retirees dont need the highest return possible. They need reliable income and confidence that the paycheck continues.

What do you do when your regular paycheck stops? Follow these 6 steps to turn your retirement savings into a steady, predictable payment plan.

Sometimes your best investment becomes your biggest risk.

Go on Dave, go on...

A client came into a meeting excited about a stock that had done incredibly well for them.

And they should have been. What's the challenge?

That one position had grown to become a huge percentage of their net worth.

The investment wasn't bad. It was just getting too important. A good problem to have as I like to say.

Big takeaway: Concentration can help build wealth. Diversification helps keep it.

Success creates new financial planning challenges.

A theme that kept showing up in meetings this week:

People weren't asking how to build wealth.

They were asking what to do with it.

Questions included:

• When does a SEP no longer make sense?
• How do I handle a concentrated stock position?
• Should I be gifting assets to reduce future taxes?
• How do I make sure wealth transfers efficiently to the next generation?

The strategies that build wealth are often different from the strategies needed to preserve it.

The earlier you plan for the next stage, the more options you'll have when you get there.

Success is great.

Being prepared for success is even better.

The BIGGEST Financial Planning Mistake I Saw This Week? Waiting on Estate Planning.

Several clients had solid investments, growing net worth, and strong retirement projections.

But they still hadn't completed the documents that protect everything they've built.

The Reality:

Estate planning isn't for when you're older. It's for when life happens.

A will, trust, healthcare proxy, and powers of attorney may be far more important than your next investment decision.

The longer you wait, the greater the risk.

Have you reviewed your estate plan in the last 3 years?

Retirement Isn't an Age. It's an Option.

A theme that kept coming up in client meetings this week.

The goal isn't to stop working. It's to make work optional.

Several clients discovered they were closer to financial independence than they realized because years of consistent saving created flexibility.

The mistake I see most often?

People wait too long to find out whether they're on track.

The earlier you plan, the more choices you create.

More time with family. More travel. More freedom. More control over your future.

Financial independence isn't about accumulating the most money. It's about having the most options.

If work became optional tomorrow, what would you do?

You Changed Your Address. Did Your Estate Plan Get the Memo?

I sound like Bill Lumbergh in Office Space.

I recently had this conversation with a client who moved from New Hampshire to Florida.

A move is a good reminder to review more than just your will and trust. It's also worth checking how your accounts are titled, who you've named as beneficiaries, and whether everything still aligns with your estate plan.

I've found that many estate planning issues aren't caused by bad documents. They're caused by accounts and beneficiary designations that haven't been reviewed in years.

If you've recently moved or had a major life change, let's talk. A quick review today can help prevent headaches for your family down the road.

Moving to a new state can change your income, property, sales, and estate taxes.

Did You Just Get a Financial "Get Out of Jail Free" Card?

A bonus. An inheritance. An RSU vesting. A stock option payout.

Most people won't get many opportunities to dramatically improve their financial position.

When one comes along, don't just ask, "What can I buy?"

Ask:

• Can I pay off debt?

• Build my emergency fund?

• Diversify concentrated stock positions?

• Catch up on retirement savings?

• Reduce financial stress?

A financial windfall may not make you wealthy overnight, but it could be the reset button that puts you on a much stronger path forward.

The key is having a plan before the money arrives.

P.S. I loved the game of Monopoly as a kid. I ALWAYS had to be the banker.
