THE IRS HAS CHANGED THE WAY IT HANDLES PAYMENT PLANS.
Can't pay your IRS balance in full?
The IRS now calls many of its installment agreements “Simple Payment Plans.”
For individuals, taxpayers who owe $50,000 or less in assessed taxes, penalties and interest will generally qualify if they meet the IRS requirements, including being current with required tax filings.
One major advantage: qualifying taxpayers generally don't have to provide the detailed financial disclosure that can be required for other IRS collection alternatives.

But just because the IRS will give you a payment plan doesn't necessarily mean it's your best option.
Depending on your circumstances, there may be other ways to resolve the debt.
Before agreeing to years of monthly payments, understand all of your options.

OWE THE IRS LESS THAN $50,000? YOU MAY HAVE MORE OPTIONS THAN YOU THINK.
If you owe the IRS and can't afford to pay the entire balance at once, don't panic.
Many individual taxpayers who owe $50,000 or less in combined tax, penalties and interest can qualify for an IRS Simple Payment Plan, traditionally referred to as a streamlined installment agreement.
Under the traditional streamlined rules, taxpayers could generally spread payments over as much as 72 months, provided the balance could be paid before the IRS's collection statute expires.
And here's something many taxpayers don't know:
The IRS generally has 10 years from the date a tax is assessed to collect it.
That deadline is called the Collection Statute Expiration Date (CSED). Certain events can suspend or extend that 10-year period, so determining the actual expiration date is important.
If you're receiving IRS notices or owe back taxes, don't assume you have to come up with the entire amount immediately.
There may be a solution.

📢 NEW TAX LAW COULD CHANGE YOUR RETIREMENT PLANNING

The new One Big Beautiful Bill includes several important tax changes that could affect retirees and those approaching retirement.

✅ Age 65 or older? You may qualify for a new $6,000 deduction per person — up to $12,000 for a married couple who both qualify.

✅ Tax rates: The current federal tax brackets have been made permanent.

✅ Roth conversions: Now may be a good time to review whether converting some of your traditional IRA to a Roth makes sense. But be careful — a conversion can affect your new senior deduction, Social Security taxation, and Medicare premiums.

✅ SALT deduction: The old $10,000 limit on state and local tax deductions has been substantially increased.

✅ Charitable giving: If you're over 70½, giving directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution may provide additional tax benefits.

❓ The important question isn't just how much tax you owe this year — it's how much tax you can avoid over your entire retirement.

If you're retired or approaching retirement, contact our office. We can review your situation and determine whether there are planning opportunities you should take advantage of.

IMPORTANT IRS PENALTY RELIEF OPPORTUNITY
Many taxpayers may be entitled to refunds of IRS penalties and interest that were assessed during the COVID relief period - but most people have no idea this opportunity exists.

The National Taxpayer Advocate has warned that taxpayers who fail to file protective refund claims BEFORE July 10, 2026 could permanently lose their rights to recover these amounts.

Potentially affected penalties may include:
*Failure to File penalties
*Failure to Pay penalties
*Estimated Tax penalties
*Certain international information return penalties

This is NOT automatic IRS relief. Taxpayers generally must file a protective claim using IRS Form 843 to preserve their rights while the legal issues continue to develop.

If you or your business paid significant IRS penalties between January 20, 2020 and July 10, 2023, this could be extremely important.

Do not assume the IRS will automatically adjust your account later.

If you would like us to review your IRS transcripts and determine whether you may qualify for relief, contact our office.

The statute clock is already ticking.
