Since last year, RI Trade Names, or DBAs, are now handled by the Secretary of State instead of the city or town where the business operates. The RI SOS requires annual renewals which can be easily done online for free. Here is the link to RI SOS website with more information:

🏘 Moving? Don't forget to tell the IRS!

Notify the IRS by filling out and mailing them Form 8822. It can take up to 6 weeks for them to process the form.

You can change your address over the phone, 800-829-1040, but it's still very difficult to get through to an agent.

The IRS and state will automatically update your address on file when you file the 2026 tax return, but that's still several months away.

At the very least, you should put in a change of address with the US Postal Service and they should forward any tax communications, though it takes a few extra weeks of processing. You can change the address in person at the Post Office or online.

The IRS has increased the standard business mileage rate for the second half of the year. Beginning July 1, 2026, the rate has increased to $0.76/mile from $0.725/mile.

Businesses who claim the standard mileage rate will need to take extra care to separate mileage for this calculation.

📨Mailing Tax Payments Or Tax Returns?
Important changes to know: Taxpayers who submit payments or filings via USPS should know of a recent change to how postmarks are applied, which can affect whether those payments and filings will be considered “on-time.” Under the new rule (effective December 24, 2025), the date stamped on mail is based on when it is first processed at a postal facility, not when it was dropped in a mailbox or handed in at the post office. Because of this, a tax return or payment mailed on the due date could receive a later postmark – sometimes days later – which a tax office would view as "late."
