Every school. Every classroom. Every hallway. The silence that yells for help.

Somewhere in that building is a child who has watched a parent get yelled at, shoved, controlled, or afraid, and is carrying it silently into their school day. They're sitting through math class trying to hold themselves together. They're on the playground testing out the only version of conflict they've ever seen modeled at home.

Domestic violence doesn't have to leave a mark you can see, to leave a mark that lasts a lifetime.

It doesn't have to be physical. Verbal abuse teaches a child what love is allowed to sound like. Financial control teaches them what power is allowed to look like. A child doesn't need to be hit to be harmed, they only need to witness it. Kids absorb what they see long before they can name it, and it becomes the blueprint they carry forward: how they fight with a partner, how they respond when they're angry or scared, how they parent their own children one day.

This is why healing can't stop with the survivor.

Kids who witness domestic violence need their own path to healing, their own language for what they experienced, their own permission to know it wasn't normal and it wasn't their fault. Without that, the cycle doesn't end. It just changes hands.

Education is how we interrupt it. Teaching kids what healthy conflict looks like. Teaching them what respect sounds like. Teaching them they are allowed to ask for help, and that what happened at home doesn't have to define what happens in their future.

Breaking the cycle starts with the next generation understanding there's a different way to live.
