🎙️ NEW EPISODE OF BE THE HUMMINGBIRD!

What Financial Advisors Wish You’d Do Sooner (Before You Have To)

There are a few words financial advisors hear all the time…

“I’ll deal with that later.”

And then later comes.
Sometimes with a deadline. Sometimes with a crisis. And sometimes with fewer choices than we would have had if we’d started just a little sooner.

This episode isn’t about me nagging you. 😉
It’s not about making you worry MORE about money.

Actually, it’s the opposite.

I want you to worry less.

In this episode, I’m sharing some of the things I wish more people would do sooner:

💰 Start financial planning—even when you don’t think you have “enough” money
⏰ Save for retirement earlier
👨‍👩‍👧 Talk to your parents about their finances BEFORE there’s a crisis
📄 Get your estate planning documents done
❤️ Stop avoiding the life insurance conversation
📆 Understand Social Security before you’re ready to take it
🏡 Think about long-term care before you need long-term care
💵 Build the emergency fund before the emergency
👩‍❤️‍👨 Talk honestly about money with your spouse
🏖️ Stop waiting for the “perfect” time to retire
🗣️ And PLEASE…tell your financial advisor the truth. We can handle it. 😂

Here’s the important part:

Earlier doesn’t mean perfect.
Earlier means BEFORE YOU HAVE TO.

Financial planning isn’t about predicting everything that might happen in your life. It’s about putting things in place today that give you more choices in the future.

And if this list feels overwhelming, don’t tackle all of it.

Pick ONE thing. Not 12. Just one.

🎧 Listen to the latest episode of Be The Hummingbird and then decide: What’s the one thing you’ve been saying you’ll deal with “later”?

🎓 The 2027–2028 FAFSA® opens October 1! If you—or a student you support—plan to attend college during the 2027–2028 academic year, preparing early can help make the process smoother. 📚

Here are a few helpful first steps:

✅ Create or verify your StudentAid.gov account
✅ Gather important financial documents, including 2025 tax returns, W-2s, and income information
✅ Determine which parent(s) or contributor(s) may need to provide information
✅ Review college, state, and scholarship deadlines—many schools award certain aid on a first-come, first-served basis

⏰ While the federal FAFSA deadline is June 30, 2028, many colleges and states have earlier priority deadlines. Applying early may help students access institutional, state, and need-based aid opportunities.

✨ September is full of incredible reminders of what human ingenuity, courage, and determination can accomplish.

This month in history, we’re celebrating a few milestones that inspire us to think bigger, reach further, and keep moving forward:

🫀 A breakthrough in medicine: In early September, a University of Minnesota surgical team achieved a landmark open-heart surgery using hypothermia—a remarkable step forward in cardiac care.

🚀 Reaching beyond Earth: Voyager One launched in September and became the most distant human-made object in space. Its Golden Record carries a message from Earth into the unknown. 🌎

🏗️ Engineering on a grand scale: Construction on Hoover Dam began during the Great Depression, demonstrating how vision and perseverance can create something lasting.

These moments remind us that meaningful progress often begins with a bold idea—and the determination to see it through. 💫

Which September milestone inspires you most? Share in the comments! 👇
