🚛💗 **$3 A MILE SOUNDS GOOD… UNTIL YOU RUN YOUR OWN NUMBERS!** 👀

Owner-operators, let's talk!

Ever notice how one driver swears a certain rate is great while another wouldn't touch it?

Here's the thing: **You're not running the same business.**

Different trucks. Different expenses. Different amounts left over.

And with diesel prices doing the absolute MOST lately ⛽😭, knowing your numbers matters more than ever!

That's why we created our FREE **Know Your Truck Numbers** calculator.

✅ See your fuel cost per mile.

✅ Find out what it actually costs to operate YOUR truck.

✅ Estimate what you'll keep from a load after operating expenses.

No comparing your truck to somebody else's. No guessing whether a rate works for you.

💗 **DM “CALC”** and we'll send you the FREE calculator!

Because the broker knows what they're offering. **You need to know what you can afford to accept.** 💰

**Your Truck. Your Numbers. Your Power.**

A load can look good on paper and still leave almost nothing once you count how you get to it.

Miles to pickup are the easiest ones to overlook, because they feel like part of the job. But they burn fuel, wear on your truck, and use up part of the miles your fixed bills are spread across.

How to protect yourself:

Know your cost per mile before the broker calls.
Add the miles to pickup to the loaded miles every time.
Multiply the total by your cost per mile and compare it to the offer.
Decide what you need to pay yourself and make sure it’s in the number. On the example load, wanting a $200 payday would leave you $106 short.

Want your own cost per mile? Get the free Know Your Truck Numbers calculator.
Comment MILE and I’ll send it to you.

OMG! ⛽🔥 Diesel prices have risen like Zeus himself came down from Mount Olympus and threw a thunderbolt at the fuel pump!⚡😂

And if you're an owner-operator, you already know the struggle.

You pull into a truck stop, grab your fuel, maybe something to eat, and get back on the road. But lately, that fuel receipt has been looking like a whole truck payment!

Here's what worries me.

Some drivers are still making decisions using the same numbers they used when diesel was cheaper.

Same truck. Same hustle. Different cost of doing business.

And when your expenses change but your calculations don't, you can work harder without actually getting ahead.

That's exactly why we created our FREE Know Your Truck Numbers calculator.

It's not another complicated spreadsheet you need an accounting degree to understand.

You enter your own truck expenses, mileage, fuel price, and MPG.

The calculator helps you:

✅ See what diesel alone costs you per mile.

✅ Understand your total cost per mile, including fixed expenses and maintenance.

✅ Estimate what a load could leave you after operating costs.

✅ Stop relying on what another driver says is a good rate because their truck expenses aren't necessarily yours.

Because the number on the fuel pump is only part of your money story.

You don't need to drive more miles to discover you're losing money. You need to know what your miles cost.

And no, Zeus isn't coming down to pay your diesel bill! 😂

A $4,000 load doesn’t mean $4,000 of profit. Before anything is yours, fuel, insurance, repairs, tolls and taxes get paid.

Here’s a quick way to see what you really keep:
• Add up what each load costs you to run: fuel, maintenance, insurance, permits
• Move a set percentage of every payment into a separate profit account right away
• Hold tax money back separately so it’s never a surprise

Kagami biraki 鏡開き means “opening the mirror.” In Japan, they crack open a sake barrel to celebrate. 🍶

So here’s my money question for you:

After you cover what your business needs, how much can you safely pay yourself?

That’s a number you should know BEFORE payday, not after. Because a good week deserves a real celebration, not another round of guessing whether there’s enough left for your mortgage.

So tell me in the comments: did you get paid this week, or did the business?

Your Money. Your Power.

A deposit is not a paycheck. That’s the owner-operator problem nobody explains.

Fuel, insurance, repairs and taxes are already waiting on that money before you ever touch it.

Fix it by splitting every deposit the day it lands: operating costs, taxes, repairs, then your pay. Pay yourself a set number on a set schedule, not whatever is left.

Your truck gets paid. Do you?

Comment PAY PLAN and I’ll send you the next step.

⛽ **Standing at the pump. Which cash is yours?**

That $4,500 load payment finally hit. You put $600 in diesel, and you're already thinking about insurance, repairs, and the truck payment.

Then you remember your own bills are due.

*“I'll pay myself after the next load.”*

Sound familiar?

🚛 **Here's the money truth:** A deposit isn't a paycheck. Some of that cash is already needed to keep your business running.

💰 **Want to start paying yourself consistently?**

1. Know your upcoming business expenses.
2. Set aside money for taxes and repairs.
3. Figure out what you can safely take home.
4. Set a regular owner-pay schedule your cash flow can support.

**Your truck shouldn't be the only thing your business keeps running. Your life matters, too.**

💛 Take the **Profit Leak Quiz** to find out what's keeping your hard-earned money tied up in your business.

Two trucks. Both clutches went out the same week. Repairs plus insurance were more than I could cover.

That’s how most trucking businesses get squeezed. It’s rarely one big mistake. It’s a surprise bill landing on the same week as a fixed bill.

Here’s how to protect yourself before it happens:

• Open a separate repair reserve account and move money into it from every load
• Know your insurance due dates for the year, and set money aside monthly so it never sneaks up on you
• Track cost per truck, not just total money in. One truck can quietly drain the other
• Review your numbers weekly, even for five minutes

I’m Joy, a bookkeeper for owner-operators and small fleets. I ran a trucking business behind the scenes, so I know these numbers from the inside.

I’m not trying to be every business owner’s favorite. Just truckers. 🚛

Here’s why: when you try to serve everybody, you end up understanding nobody. Trucking has its own money rules. Detention pay, fuel, per diem, IFTA, deadhead miles, factoring fees. A general bookkeeper will categorize it and move on. A bookkeeper who knows trucking will catch the leaks before they cost you.

How to find the right bookkeeper for your trucking business:

✅ Ask if they’ve worked with owner-operators before. If they hesitate, keep looking.

✅ Ask how they handle fuel, per diem, and IFTA. The answer tells you everything.

✅ Ask if they track detention and deadhead, or just income and expenses.

✅ Make sure they review your numbers monthly, not once a year at tax time.

You don’t need a bookkeeper who’s everybody’s favorite. You need one who knows your business inside and out.

Truckers, is your bookkeeper someone who gets trucking? Tell me in the comments 👇

Waiting at a dock doesn’t just cost you time. It costs you profit, and most owner-operators never see it happen.

Your truck payment, insurance, and fuel keep running while you sit. If that wait never gets billed, the load just made you less money than you thought. If it makes you late for the next pickup, you can lose that load too. Do it a few times a month and your profit is smaller and your cash is tighter, and nothing in your books explains why.

That’s the problem with detention. It’s not a big expense you can spot. It’s money you quietly never collected.

This is where a bookkeeper earns their keep. A good one will:

🍷 Track detention as its own line, so you can see what you billed, what got approved, and what actually landed in your bank
🍷 Match your invoices to your payments and flag anything short-paid or still sitting unpaid
🍷 Show you each month how much detention you’re leaving behind, so you can make decisions with real numbers instead of guesses
🍷 Show you your real profit per load, not just your revenue

You do the driving and the paperwork at the dock. Your bookkeeper makes sure the money you earned doesn’t disappear on the way to your account.

Detention terms depend on your rate confirmation, so always read yours before you accept a load.

Ever waited at a shipper or receiver and never got paid for your time? Comment DETAINED and let me know. 🍷
