๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ‘€ HOW MANY JOBS HAVE YOU HAD IN YOUR LIFETIME?

Now hereโ€™s the bigger questionโ€ฆ

Do you know where ALL of your retirement money went? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ต

You could have an old 401(k) or pension benefit connected to a former employer that you completely forgot about.

And NO โ€” I didnโ€™t make this website up! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ This is an official U.S. Department of Labor website.

๐Ÿ”Ž Check here:
https://lostandfound.dol.gov/

The Retirement Savings Lost and Found Database can help you locate certain retirement plans from previous private-sector employers or unions that may still have benefits connected to you.

โœ… Worked several jobs over the years? CHECK.
โœ… Left a job and forgot about your 401(k)? CHECK.
โœ… Not sure what happened to an old pension? CHECK.
โœ… Changed addresses since leaving an employer? Definitely CHECK.

Youโ€™ll need to verify your identity through Login.gov before searching.

โš ๏ธ Remember: Finding a retirement plan listed does not automatically mean money is owed to you. The plan administrator will confirm whether you still have benefits available.

๐Ÿ“ฒ SEND THIS TO SOMEBODY WHO NEEDS TO CHECK THEIRS!

You worked for that money โ€” itโ€™s worth finding out where it went. ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ”Ž

๐Ÿ’ฐ YOU SPENT MONEY STARTING A BUSINESSโ€ฆ BUT IT NEVER GOT OFF THE GROUND. NOW WHAT?

This is one of those tax situations people rarely talk about.

Maybe you paid for a business license, training, a website, equipment, marketing, supplies, or professional services because you fully planned to open.

Then life happened โ€” and the business never officially started operating.

๐Ÿ“Œ Hereโ€™s why that matters:
Expenses you incur BEFORE a business begins are not automatically treated the same as expenses from an active business.

For an unsuccessful attempt to start a business, the tax treatment may depend on whether the money was spent during a general search for a business opportunity, toward starting a specific business, or purchasing an asset you still own. IRS guidance distinguishes between these types of costs.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Easy example:
You planned to start a food truck.

Before opening, you paid for:
โœจ Business training
โœจ Logo design
โœจ Advertising
โœจ Equipment
โœจ Business registration

But you never launched.

That does NOT mean you should simply add everything together and claim it as a normal Schedule C loss. Some costs may receive different tax treatment, while the cost of equipment you still own generally remains part of that assetโ€™s tax basis.

๐Ÿ“ Keep your paperwork!
Save:
โœ”๏ธ Receipts
โœ”๏ธ Invoices
โœ”๏ธ Canceled checks
โœ”๏ธ Bank statements
โœ”๏ธ Credit-card statements
โœ”๏ธ Contracts
โœ”๏ธ Formation documents
โœ”๏ธ Equipment purchase records
โœ”๏ธ Proof of payment

The IRS recommends records that identify who was paid, how much was paid, the date, proof of payment, and what was purchased or received.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Received money from a GoFundMe?
You may be wondering: Do I have to pay taxes on it? ๐Ÿค”

The answer is: It depends on WHY the money was given. ๐Ÿ“Œ

๐ŸŽ If people gave you money out of generosity and expected nothing in return, the funds may be considered a gift and may not be taxable.

๐Ÿ’ผ But if the money was connected to a business, product, service, or reward, it may be considered taxable income.

๐Ÿ“„ You may also receive a Form 1099-K for crowdfunding payments. Receiving the form does not automatically mean every dollar is taxable, but you should keep good records.

๐Ÿ’ก Easy Example:
๐Ÿฅ Friends raise $5,000 to help you with medical bills and receive nothing in return โžก๏ธ the money may be treated as a gift.

๐Ÿ“ฆ You raise $5,000 for your business and promise products or services to supporters โžก๏ธ the money may be taxable income.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Keep these records:
โœ… Campaign screenshots
โœ… Platform statements
โœ… Bank deposit records
โœ… Form 1099-K, if received
โœ… Donor messages or emails
โœ… Receipts showing how the money was used

๐Ÿ’ฐ WORKED 2 JOBS THIS YEAR? YOU MAY HAVE OVERPAID SOCIAL SECURITY TAX! ๐Ÿ’ฐ

If you worked for two or more employers during the same tax year, each employer generally withholds Social Security tax based only on the wages they paid you.

That means if your combined wages go over the annual Social Security wage limit, you could end up having more Social Security tax withheld than required.

โœ… Who should pay attention?
Employees who received W-2s from 2 or more employers during the year.

๐Ÿ“Œ Example:
You work Job #1 and Job #2. Each employer properly withholds Social Security tax from your paycheck. However, when your wages from both jobs are combined, you exceed the annual Social Security wage limit. The excess Social Security tax withheld may be claimed as a credit on your federal income tax return.

๐Ÿ“‚ Keep these records:
โ€ข All W-2s
โ€ข Final paystubs
โ€ข Your filed tax return
โ€ข Any IRS correspondence related to the issue

โš ๏ธ Important: If ONE employer alone withheld too much Social Security tax, you generally must ask that employer to correct and refund the excess first. If the excess happened because you worked for multiple employers, you may be able to claim it on your federal tax return.

You said you were going to do itโ€ฆ
You said you were going to get seriousโ€ฆ
You said, โ€œI still have time!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Wellโ€ฆ TIME IS RUNNING OUT! โฐ

If you filed an extension for your 2025 federal individual tax return, the extended filing deadline is:

๐ŸŽƒ OCTOBER 15, 2026 ๐ŸŽƒ

That extension gave you more time to FILE โ€” it did not give you more time to pay taxes that were originally due April 15. If you owe, penalties and interest may continue to add up. (IRSโ ๏ฟผ)

๐Ÿ‘ป Donโ€™t let your unfiled tax return come back to HAUNT YOU!

โœ… Extension filers

โœ… Self-employed taxpayers
โœ… Schedule C filers

โœ… Amended returns

๐Ÿ“† October 15 is approaching FAST!

Get those documents together and get that return filed.
