Talent Accounting Services, LLC was developed to provide affordable accounting services to non-profit organizations, small businesses including condominium associations, and individuals. The services provided to each include:

Non-Profit Accounting: A love for the non-profit industry was developed when I became the treasurer for the Waunakee Community Band, a non-profit organization developed to share the gift of music with the Waunakee community. I am currently developing a relationship with another non-profit organization. The services provided include but are not limited to:
• Determining whether the non-profit has the most advantageous tax status, and work with the IRS and complete paperwork to update tax status as needed
• Provide day to day accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and daily account reconciliation
• Completing tax returns on a yearly basis

Small Business Accounting: The first client I approached to build a business relationship with was the fitness club I attend, Fitness for Success. Clayton McCauley, the owner and manager of Fitness for Success, states “I have been working with Emily for some time now and I have greatly appreciated her business and knowledge. She has been very helpful working with my schedule and my style of business. She is timely with her work and very thorough, so much so that I can spend more time working on what I do best. Thank you Emily!” The services I will provide include but are not limited to:
• Payroll
• Accounts Payable
• Accounts Receivable
• Account Reconciliation
• Tax Return Preparation

Condominium Association Accounting: I am currently providing my services to one condominium association. We first discussed our relationship and drew up a contract for the services to be provided. The association decided at that time to go with an established CPA firm in Waunakee. In February, the treasurer of the association contacted me again, stating the association received the bill for services from the CPA firm and decided to search for someone who could provide the same quality of services but at a more affordable price. The association decided to contract with me. The services I will provide include but are not limited to:
• Accounts Receivable
• Accounts Payable
• Payroll
• Account Reconciliation
• Tax Return Preparation

Individuals: I can assist with the following:
• Tax Return Preparation
• Debt and Savings Management

If there are any other services you need, I am willing to help you. I pride my business on providing quality services at a reasonable cost to my clients. Securities and Advisory Services offered through HARBOUR INVESTMENTS INC. Member SIPC

“How much can we pull from our accounts without tipping into a higher tax bracket—or paying extra for Medicare?” That was the heart of a recent conversation. A couple who’d just swapped a large CD for a winter home in sunny Arizona saw their interest income shrink to roughly a third of last year’s level. Together, we mapped every income source—from Social Security to inherited IRA—then overlaid two key lines: the top of their current 22 % bracket and the Medicare IRMAA threshold. The result? They have room to boost cash flow by about $40k this year, still stay in the same bracket, and avoid the surcharge—meaning more funds for travel while the knees (newly replaced, in his case!) are ready to explore. Know your numbers; they can buy you both freedom and peace of mind.

For decades, the focus was on accumulating. Saving, building, preparing. Retirement flips that dynamic.

Suddenly, the goal is to draw on what you’ve built, coordinate multiple income sources, and balance today’s spending with what’s ahead. Life expectancy data suggests many retirees may spend 20 or more years in this next chapter.

That’s not a footnote. It’s the whole story.

The early years of retirement are worth being intentional about. The routines you establish, the way you approach your time and your finances, tend to set the tone for what follows.

That’s something worth talking about.

One of the biggest changes in retirement isn’t financial. It’s social. Work provides structure, sure. But it also provides community. Colleagues, shared goals, and a reason to be somewhere at a specific time.

When that falls away, many retirees find themselves rebuilding their social lives from the ground up. Community groups, volunteer organizations, and new social circles often fill the gaps, but it takes time.

Research shows that more than one-quarter of adults age 65 and older volunteer each year. That’s not a coincidence. For many people, contributing to something larger is part of what makes retirement feel meaningful. If you’re navigating this transition, you’re not alone.

“Is that extra $100 per paycheck actually moving the needle?”
Today I sat with a client who posed exactly that. We pulled up our new planning dashboard, slid one little bar, and saw the impact in seconds: directing $2,400 a year into their workplace deferred-comp plan trimmed roughly $500 off their current tax bill and, more importantly, kept them in the lower tax bracket for another year. Yes—the dollars felt small, but the strategic edge was big. We also weighed the trade-off: a 3.75 % money-market offers easy access, while deferred comp locks the funds until retirement but grows tax-deferred. The point? Even modest contributions can be powerful when they’re placed with purpose. Take a fresh look at your own paycheck—are those automatic deductions working as hard as they could?

The first year of retirement brings a shift that’s bigger than most people expect. Your schedule opens up.

Your income sources change.

The rhythms you’ve built over decades are replaced by something new and unwritten.

For many retirees, that first year is less a finish line and more a starting point. It’s a chance to experiment with routines, revisit long-postponed interests, and figure out what this next chapter actually looks like for you.

This week, we’re breaking down what that transition often looks like in real terms. Follow along for the full picture.
