Government shut down? Yes. IRS deadlines? Still alive and well.

If you filed an extension, October 15 is still the finish line for personal and C-Corp returns. For crypto investors, that means wallet moves, staking, and DeFi income need to be reported correctly, shutdown or not.

Yes, DC is in a shutdown. No, that doesn’t pause your tax life. The IRS is staying open using multi-year funds, and its official contingency plan says normal operations continue at least through the initial period. In short, returns can be filed, payments can be made, and notices still matter.

Extensions don’t erase deadlines, they just push them back. And those deadlines are almost here.

• S-Corporations and Partnerships: due September 15
• Individuals and C-Corporations: due October 15

If you’ve been sitting on an extension, now’s the time to finish strong. Miss it, and penalties and interest start stacking fast.

And if you’re active in crypto, those trades, staking rewards, and wallet transfers aren’t optional; they all need to be reported correctly.

🚨 Big Shift in Crypto Just Became Law: Here’s What You Need to Know About the GENIUS Act

While most folks were still cleaning up from the 4th of July, something huge went down in the crypto world.

The GENIUS Act... the first full-blown federal regulation for stablecoins was officially signed into law on July 25, 2025.

So what’s the big deal?

This bill sets strict new rules for stablecoin issuers (think USDC, USDT, etc.):

✔️ 100% reserve backing
✔️ Monthly audits
✔️ AML/KYC compliance
✔️ Treasury oversight
✔️ Consumer protection enforcement

The law won’t kick in fully until either 120 days after rules are finalized or 18 months from now, but that doesn’t mean you can relax.

This is the start of real accountability in the stablecoin space.

And if you're earning, spending, staking, or just moving USDC through DeFi?
That activity is now increasingly visible to the IRS, especially once those monthly audits from stablecoin issuers start flowing.

We’re already seeing folks reach out asking:
"Should I be doing anything now?"

Short answer: Yes.

This is your window to get ahead of it all, not when regulators are already knocking.

If you're using stablecoins at all, it’s time to:
• Get your wallet activity in order
• Clean up your crypto income trail
• Make sure you’re not sitting on hidden tax risks

If you need help, we’ve got your back, without the jargon or judgment.

Crypto fund managers:
Your investors haven’t started chasing you for K-1s... yet. But they will.

We’re officially under 90 days from the September 15th deadline — and the clock’s ticking fast.

If you still need help with reconciliations, CEX/DeFi cleanup, or K-1s that won’t get flagged by the IRS bots — let’s chat.

So you heard the IRS backed off DeFi reporting requirements? Cool.

But don’t get too comfortable.

If you’ve ever sent crypto from a centralized exchange to a DeFi wallet (or vice versa), you’re still on the radar. The IRS doesn’t need DeFi platforms to report your activity, they already get it from your on-ramps and off-ramps.

And yes, your staking rewards, airdrops, and yield farming income? Still taxable.

We’re helping clients clean this up before it becomes a problem. If you’ve been active on-chain and you’re not tracking it right, don’t wait for an IRS letter to get serious.
