If you contribute to a Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) through your employer, it's time to double-check that account balance (and start spending!).
FSAs are made up of pre-tax contributions that you can spend on qualified medical expenses, but you can lose ALL that money if you don't use it before year-end.
Check with your employer to see whether you have a carryover grace period, but if not, get ready to stock up your medicine cabinet and book that dentist appointment you've been putting off! π©Ί

π Before you go wild with the new βno tax on tipsβ lawβ¦ hereβs the deal:
This list isnβt *every* job that could ever get tipped. Itβs just a preliminary list of occupations that were considered customarily + regularly tipped before 2025. πΈ
The IRS is expected to issue additional guidance, especially for employees (or self-employed owners of) Specialized Service Trade or Business (SSTBs).
With any new tax change, working with a qualified tax accountant (like me!) is a great way to make sure you're doing everything right! π²

SPOILER ALERT: An S election isn't the magic tax hack that TikTok tax bros make it out to be...
But it *can* be a powerful tool for businesses that want to minimize their self-employment tax.
This guide covers exactly what you need to know before you check that box.
Paying less in SE tax is great, but it comes at the cost of additional tax + payroll filings, and compliance rules you can't ignore!
Comment "S CORP" and I'll email you the guide. π

Did you know I offer a service where I take a fine-tooth comb to your business and look for all the "skeletons" that are hiding out? π
It's called a diagnostic review!
Basically, I'm looking through your accounts for these things:
β Are all of your accounts reconciled through your most recent statement?
β Are there any uncleared or uncategorized transactions that need to be addressed?
β Do the balances shown on your balance sheet tie out to their source documents?
β If you need to collect and remit sales tax, is this being done correctly?
β Do salaries + wages tie to payroll reports?
β Are all third-party app integrations (like your CRM or payment processor) syncing accurately?
Too many business owners are just winging their accounting with no clue that things are just getting messier and messier!

When it comes to getting a tax deduction for your business miles, every mile counts! π
The IRS is pretty strict on what it needs to know about your business mileage, which is why keeping a log is a non-negotiable for my clients.
Here are a few different ways my clients are logging their mileage:
β MileIQ: Auto-tracks trips + makes it stupid easy to swipe left/right for business vs. personal.
β QuickBooks Online app: Syncs with your accounts so your mileage deduction flows straight onto your tax return.
β Everlance: Mileage + expense tracking in one place, with slick reporting if youβre a data nerd like me.
REMINDER: You need to know your business mileage *regardless* of whether you're using the actual expense method or standard mileage rate.

Ghost users are a HUGE security risk for businesses, and you might not even know you have them! π»
These are users who have access to your accounting software but don't actually *need* it.
For example, you might still have an old employee or accountant listed as a user, but there's NO reason they should still have any access to your files.
If you have a former employee who had user access to your QuickBooks file, and you haven't deactivated them yet, please go do it RIGHT NOW!
PRO TIP: Audit your user list every quarter to ensure you're giving access *only* to the people who truly need it (like you and your accountant).

Sorry for this blast from the past, but remember when you bought a QuickBooks subscription with the best of intentions back in January?! π
If your accounting file has just been collecting dust (aka months of randomly synced transactions from your bank), here's a reality check: β
You're a business owner who, ideally, would do your own accounting perfectly every month and save the money on hiring an accountant, right? π€
But in reality, you constantly have "do accounting" at the bottom of your to-do list, and you stress a little more with each month that your accounts go unreconciled...
π» Quit letting the ghost of your accounting haunt you and hire ME!
