Gold Fell for a Third Week—So Why Did Gold Funds Reach Record Holdings?
Gold declined approximately 1.5% last week. Silver fell about 2.6%.
But beneath those price moves, three important facts emerged:
Global gold-backed funds added $18 billion during August.
Their physical holdings reached a record 4,189 metric tons.
China added approximately 650,000 ounces to its reserves, extending its reported buying streak to 22 months.
Does that guarantee higher gold prices? No.
It shows why one down week—or even three—does not tell the whole story.
Interest rates, the dollar and futures traders can move prices quickly. Central-bank policies, investment demand and mine supply tend to develop over much longer periods.
The smart question is not, “Will gold go up next week?”
It is:
“What do I own, what did I pay, how easily can I sell it, and what role does it serve in my retirement plan?”
