Before throwing my little sibling into the big, bad tax-filing world of W-2s, 1099s, deductions, and tax forms, this is the exact advice I’d give them! ➡️😂
Because your first few tax returns can feel A LOT more complicated than they need to be. And honestly? You don’t want to wait until you’re staring at a tax form wondering, “Wait… what does this even mean?” 👀
Here’s what I’d tell them:
→ Keep your W-2s, 1099s, and other tax documents organized. 📂
→ Don’t assume every expense is automatically deductible.
→ If you have a side hustle, track your income and business expenses from the beginning.
→ Update your W-4 when your life or income changes.
→ Don’t ignore IRS or state tax notices. Open them, read them, and get help if you’re unsure what to do.
→ And most importantly, ask questions BEFORE making a decision that could affect your taxes.
You don’t have to become a tax expert overnight. You just need to understand what applies to you and know when it’s time to ask for help. 🙌
Whether you’re filing your first return, starting a side hustle, or trying to get more organized with your taxes, having the right information can make tax season SO much less stressful.
Save this post for the next time you—or someone you love—needs a little tax-filing guidance. 📌
