K-9 Ace didn’t know how dangerous the situation was. He didn’t understand headlines, politics or consequences. He simply knew his job — protect his handler and the deputies beside him.
And that is exactly what he did.
When a wanted suspect opened fire on Polk County deputies, Ace went toward the danger. Sheriff Grady Judd credits him with helping save the lives of three deputies. Ace was critically wounded, and although he survived, his injuries will end his career in law enforcement.
These K-9s aren’t “just dogs.” They are partners. They train beside our law enforcement officers, ride beside them, put themselves in harm’s way beside them and, when called upon, protect them.
Ace did his job.
Now I hope he gets to spend the rest of his life being spoiled rotten by the people he protected and the community he served. ❤️🐾💙
