Money Myth #4: “I should pay off all my debt before I start investing.” 👇 It sounds responsible. But for most people, it’s the wrong order, and it can cost years of compounding growth. Here’s the framework that actually works: prioritize by interest rate. High-interest debt (credit cards, anything above ~8–10%) deserves aggressive paydown. Low-interest debt (mortgage, federal student loans) can coexist with investing. And if you’re under the Blended Retirement System, contribute at least 5% to your TSP before you do anything else. The government match is a guaranteed return that no debt payoff strategy can beat. The cost of waiting to invest until you’re completely debt-free? Years of compounding time you can never get back. 💙 New myth every Friday. Follow so you don’t miss one.

Parents, if your student is heading to college in the 2027–28 academic year, the FAFSA is now fully open and the time to file is right now.
Quick note for families who filed early: if you submitted during the testing period before October 2026, you're all set. No need to resubmit. Your application carries forward. For everyone else: file today at studentaid.gov. Here's why it matters. Financial aid at many schools is awarded first-come, first-served. The family that files in October and the family that files in February may have identical financial situations, but only one of them gets the grant. The other gets a loan offer. And if you're thinking "we make too much to qualify", please reach out to us. There are certain situations in which delaying filing may actually be to your advantage. Swipe through for what every family needs to know (including military-specific FAFSA considerations that may actually improve your aid eligibility).

We also just published a complete college funding planning guide on the blog covering 529 plans, the GI Bill Transfer of Benefits, military scholarships, and how to put it all together. Link in our bio.

Money Myth #3: "My military pension is all I need for retirement." 👇
A military pension is one of the most valuable benefits a service member can earn. But depending on it as your sole retirement income (especially when you're retiring in your early 40s with potentially four decades ahead) is more risky than you might think. 50% of base pay under Legacy. 40% under BRS. Factor in healthcare costs, inflation, and a family still depending on you... and the math changes quickly. Your pension is a powerful foundation. But a foundation isn't a complete house. 💙
Your TSP, your investment strategy, and your post-military income all matter all deserve a place in your plan. New myth every Friday, follow along so you don't miss one.

Financial independence for women means something specific: wealth that is genuinely yours. It’s in your name, under your control, and built to sustain you regardless of what life brings.
For military spouses managing PCS moves, deployments, and career interruptions, and for women business owners pouring everything into building something they believe in, this isn't abstract advice. It's deeply personal.
As a women-owned, fee-only firm, we built Clear Insight Wealth Management to serve You.

Today is a day of reflection.
Columbus Day invites us to sit with the full complexity of American history. We honor what has been built, acknowledge what has been lost, all the people whose cultures, traditions, and resilience have shaped America.
We are grateful to serve a community of military families and veterans who understand better than most what it means to give in service of something larger than themselves. On a day like today, that spirit of service feels particularly meaningful.
From our team to you, thank you for being part of this community. 💙

Money Myth #3: "I'm too young to think about retirement." 👇
Let's talk numbers. $200/month starting at age 22 → ~$640,000 by age 62 $200/month starting at age 32 → ~$303,000 by age 62 Same contribution. Same return. A 10-year delay costs more than $300,000. That's the power of compound growth but it only works if you start early. The best time to begin is 10 years ago, the next best time is now. 💙
If you're a junior service member reading this: your TSP is one of the most powerful tools you have. Use it early. Increase it consistently. Don't wait. New myth every Friday, follow so you don't miss one.
Note: Figures are illustrative estimates assuming a 7% average annual return, compounded monthly. Actual returns will vary.

If something happened to you tomorrow, does your family have everything they need to move forward financially?
A will is a great start toward making sure your loved ones are taken care of. But it's only one piece of the puzzle. There are actually 5 documents that work together in a strong estate plan to protect the people who depend on you.
🎖️ Active duty service members: don’t forget your JAG legal assistance office provides these documents at no cost. That’s a huge bonus that we’d love to see you utilize. Take some time this month to protect the ones you love.

Money Myth #2: "Investing is just gambling." 👇

We hear this one a lot, and we understand where it comes from. Markets are volatile. Headlines are scary. It can feel like a coin flip.

But are feelings aren't always right. And there's a fundamental difference between gambling and investing. Gambling is zero-sum game where someone wins and someone loses. When you invest in a diversified portfolio you're buying real ownership in real businesses that grow in real value over time.

For example, the TSP C Fund tracks the S&P 500, which collects shares of 500 of the largest companies in America. Investing in these funds isn't a risky bet. It's a way to become a part-owner of the American economy.

We're talking about a new myth every Friday. Follow along so you don't miss one.
