**Inflation Reality**

Inflation is real, and it slowly reduces what your money can buy. Your money needs a growth plan just to keep up.

Step 4: Build Your Actual Budget

Now it’s time to put your numbers together:

➡ Start with your monthly take-home income
➡ Subtract your fixed expenses
➡ Subtract your variable spending
➡ Subtract your financial goals

Then, do the math.

If your expenses are greater than your income, adjust the numbers until the budget works.

Spend less in one category, move money to another, and keep rearranging until everything has a place.

Budgeting is a little like building with LEGOs—you may have to move some pieces around before everything fits.

Owning a business can blur the line between business money and personal money.

But keeping them separate can make it easier to:

✔ Track the true profitability of your business
✔ Prepare accurate tax returns
✔ Manage cash flow
✔ Protect personal assets
✔ Make better business decisions

Use separate accounts, maintain good records, and pay yourself through a consistent process.

Your business finances should tell you how the business is performing—not how much you spent personally last weekend.

**Interest Is Expensive**

Don’t let interest eat your paycheck. The less interest you pay, the more money you can save, invest, and use to build the life you want.

Credit Score

Your credit score is your adult report card. 📊

It doesn’t measure your intelligence, income, or worth—but it can determine how much you pay to borrow money.

Step 3: Try the 50/30/20 Rule

Need a simple place to start? Divide your monthly take-home income into three categories:

50% — Needs
Housing, utilities, groceries, transportation, and minimum debt payments

30% — Wants
Dining out, entertainment, shopping, and subscriptions

20% — Financial Goals
Saving, investing, and paying extra toward debt

These percentages won’t fit every household—and that’s okay.

Think of the 50/30/20 rule as training wheels for budgeting: a simple way to create structure until you find what works best for you.

Do You Know What Your Business Is Worth?
You know how much revenue your business generates.

But do you know what your business is actually worth?

That number can affect:

✔ Your retirement strategy
✔ Your succession plan
✔ Life and disability insurance decisions
✔ Buy-sell agreements
✔ Estate planning
✔ Negotiations with a potential buyer

Revenue, profit, and business value are not the same thing.

You wouldn’t prepare for retirement without knowing the value of your investment accounts.

Your business shouldn’t be any different.

A financial plan is also a stress-reduction plan.

Clarity won’t eliminate every problem—but it can eliminate a lot of uncertainty.

Step 2: Categorize Your Spending

Now that you know your numbers, break your spending into a few simple buckets:

Fixed Expenses:
🏠 Rent or mortgage
🚗 Car payments
📱 Phone
💡 Utilities

Variable Expenses:
🍔 Food
⛽ Gas
🎟 Entertainment
🛍 Shopping

Financial Priorities:
💰 Saving
📈 Investing
💳 Paying down debt

This helps you see where your money is really going—and sometimes, the answer is surprising.

Could Your Business Continue Without You?
If you couldn’t work tomorrow, could your business continue operating?

Many businesses depend heavily on one owner for client relationships, important decisions, and daily operations.

Every business owner should consider:

✔ Who could temporarily manage the business?
✔ Who has access to important accounts and information?
✔ How would employees and customers be notified?
✔ Could the business continue paying its bills?
✔ What would happen to the owner’s family?

A successful business shouldn’t depend on everything going exactly as planned.

Build a business that can survive the unexpected.
