More revenue doesn't always mean more profit.

It's exciting when your business starts growing.

More customers.
More appointments.
More jobs on the schedule.
Maybe even your first few employees.

But growth also brings expenses.

Additional payroll, supplies, equipment, insurance, and operating costs can all affect how much of that increased revenue your business actually keeps.

That's why it's important to pay attention to more than just how busy your business is.

Are your expenses growing faster than your revenue?
Are you maintaining healthy profit margins?
Do your financial records give you a clear picture of what's changing?

You don't have to become an accounting expert to run a successful business.

But you do need reliable financial information.

If you're ready to take that next step forward, send me a message and we can look at where you're at!

One of my favorite parts of bookkeeping is when the numbers start telling a story. 📊

Sometimes I'll be reviewing financial records and notice something interesting.

An expense category has been gradually increasing.

Revenue is higher than last month, but profit hasn't changed much.

Or a business is spending significantly more in one area than it did earlier in the year.

None of those things automatically means there's a problem.

But they do raise questions worth asking.

And that's something I genuinely enjoy about working with financial records.

Yes, I love when everything reconciles perfectly - But I also enjoy understanding what's happening behind the numbers, because every transaction is a small piece of a much bigger financial picture.

One of the things I want my clients to feel comfortable doing is asking me questions.

“Can we afford to do this?”
“Why was this month so different?”
“Where should this transaction go?”
“Does this look right?”
“What information do I need to give the CPA?”

Bookkeeping shouldn’t mean somebody silently categorizes transactions once a month and disappears.

I’m already working inside the financial records. If something doesn't make sense, or a client needs information to make a decision, I want them to ask.

Some of my favorite parts of this job actually start with:
“Hey Melani, quick question…”

Because accurate books are important.
But having someone who actually knows what’s happening in them is even better.

Church financial reports should help leadership understand more than just how much money is in the bank. ⛪

A church might have a healthy bank balance, but that doesn't necessarily mean all of those funds are available for general operations.

Some money may be designated for specific purposes. Other funds may already be needed for upcoming expenses.

That's why organized bookkeeping and clear financial reporting are so important.

Church leadership should be able to understand:

• What came in and what went out.

• How expenses compare with the budget.

• Which funds are available for general operations.

• Whether financial trends need attention.

Good financial stewardship involves more than recording donations and paying bills.

It also involves having reliable information when decisions need to be made.

At DelMastro Bookkeeping Solutions, I enjoy helping churches keep their financial records organized, understandable, and useful to their leadership.

In many small churches, the financial work falls to someone who already has another role.

A pastor.
A pastor’s spouse.
A treasurer.
A volunteer who agreed to help because somebody needed to do it.

And suddenly that person is handling deposits, expenses, payroll, reconciliations, donor records, and financial reports on top of everything else they already do for the church.

That’s one of the reasons I especially enjoy working with churches.
Professional bookkeeping doesn’t replace the people serving the church. It can take a time-consuming administrative responsibility off their shoulders so they can focus on the work they actually came there to do.

If you know a church relying heavily on volunteers to keep its financial records organized, I’d love an introduction.

Your business loan payment and your business expenses aren't always the same thing.

Let's say your business makes a $500 loan payment.

It's easy to assume that means $500 in expenses for the month.

But loan payments are generally divided into two parts:

💰 Principal: Reduces the amount you owe.

📊 Interest: Is generally recorded as an expense.

That means your bank account may decrease by $500, but your Profit & Loss statement won't necessarily show a $500 expense.

And that's an important distinction when you're trying to understand how your business is performing.

Your bank balance tells you how much money is available.

Your financial statements help explain what's happening behind those numbers.

Accurate bookkeeping isn't just about recording what happened. It's about making sure the financial picture makes sense.

Landscaping business owners: Are your books keeping up with your business? 🌵

Running a landscaping company involves a lot more than maintaining beautiful properties.

You've got equipment purchases, vehicle maintenance, fuel, supplies, employee wages, and expenses that can change throughout the year.

And as your business grows, those expenses don't necessarily increase at the same rate as your revenue.

You might be bringing in more customers than ever before while noticing that your money doesn't seem to stretch quite as far.

That's one of the reasons keeping accurate financial records matters.

When your books are organized and current, it's much easier to see where your money is going and how your business is performing.

At DelMastro Bookkeeping Solutions, I help small business owners maintain reliable financial records so they can spend less time sorting through transactions and more time focusing on their businesses

Doing your own bookkeeping isn't necessarily saving your business money.

When you're running a business, your time has value.
An hour spent reconciling bank accounts is an hour you aren't spending with customers, managing employees, or growing your business.

But there's another consideration.

When you're spending all your time simply getting the transactions entered, how much time are you actually spending looking at what those transactions are telling you?

Are expenses increasing?
Is revenue growing alongside your costs?
Are there spending patterns you haven't noticed?

Accurate bookkeeping is important. But having the time and information to understand what's happening in your business is just as valuable.

Sometimes a business doesn’t realize it has outgrown its bookkeeping system until something changes.

You hire your first employee.
You open another bank account.
You add a credit card.
Revenue increases.
There are suddenly a LOT more transactions every month.

The bookkeeping method that worked perfectly when the business was small can become frustrating very quickly as the business grows.
That doesn’t mean you did anything wrong.

It might simply mean the business has reached the point where its financial systems need to grow with it.

If your business is growing and the bookkeeping is becoming harder to keep up with, that’s a conversation I’m always happy to have.
