Happy 85th birthday Social Security! On this day in 1935, President Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act, which massively changed the landscape for retirement planning.

I've seen a lot of excitement recently about the fact that Apple and Tesla are doing stock splits, and I wanted to clarify that a stock split itself does not increase the value of your holdings in the stocks. For those of you that have no idea what a stock split is, here is an example. Instead of owning 1 share of a company at $100, you now have 2 shares of that company at $50 after a 2 for 1 stock split. The amount you own stays the same in dollar value. However, there is a potential benefit to the companies doing this in that more small investors may be able to buy into the stock.
