New baby since January 1, 2025?👶💰
As part of the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the Trump account was launched and is now live.
Children under age 18 with a valid Social Security number may be eligible for a Trump Account, a new tax-deferred investment account owned by the child and managed by an authorized adult during childhood.
Children who are U.S. citizens and were born from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028, may receive a one-time $1,000 federal contribution after an authorized person makes the required election. Children born outside that period can still qualify for an account, but not the $1,000 pilot contribution.
Here are the basics:
✅ Up to $5,000 in combined contributions per child for 2026
✅ Personal contributions are generally made with after-tax dollars and are not federally deductible
✅ Earnings grow federally tax-deferred
🔒 Funds are generally locked until January 1 of the year the child turns 18
📋 After that, traditional IRA rules generally apply
💵 Taxable distributions are generally treated as ordinary income
⚠️ Distributions before age 59½ may face a 10% additional federal tax, unless an exception applies
State tax treatment may vary. Visit www.TrumpAccounts.gov for official information.
The $1,000 gift from the government provides a good reason to take advantage of the Trump Accounts for children born from January 1, 2025- December 31, 2028.
