Alignment. Everything is easier when things are in alignment.

I remember a high-school friend had an old green Chevy Caprice Classic. The front end on that car was so far out of alignment that if you let go of the wheel, you were taking a hard left-hand turn. It took a lot of effort just to keep the thing pointed in the direction you wanted to go.

The same principle applies in life. When things are in alignment, life is easier. It's fun. You're moving. And it feels effortless.

That's what this past weekend was for me. Valportodesa and Homes Step by Step put on a conference that was in ALIGNMENT with who I am. With who Hunt and I created Solutions Group to be.

ElderCare Solutions Group is committed to operating in Love, Honor, Integrity, and Family. Notice what's NOT in there? Money: revenue and profit. Wanna know why? Because revenue is the natural consequence of consistently being in alignment, and profit is the natural consequence of wisely managing your finances. Yes, those things get to be there ... and they're not in the core ... they're in the consequence ... they're part of the result.

Every speaker this weekend reinforced this principle ... and none of us coordinated it beforehand. I am in awe at the level of mastery Evie demonstrated in putting together a gaggle of speakers who were all in alignment with each other without any behind-the-scenes coordination.

"Hey, you're a CPA, right?" It's a question I get A LOT from small business owners.

"So, what is it you think you need a CPA for?" I ask.

They tell me about their circumstance, followed up with, "So I need a CPA to help me with by books and taxes."

And now I have an opportunity to educate them. "You mentioned that your business is an LLC, so you're not a publicly traded company, so you don't have a legal requirement for a CPA to audit your books. And you didn't mention anything about being audited by the IRS, so you don't need a credentialed representative there. So ... why is it you think you need a CPA?"

And then we talk about the surprisingly few things CPAs are licensed to do, and how none of them are designed to help you manage your business in a way that's meaningful to you. CPAs don't focus on business. CPAs focus on compliance. On building a set of financial statements that can be compared between companies and across industries. CPAs help passive investors, not active business owners.
