A growing practice can still feel financially tight when pricing, capacity, and operating costs aren’t reviewed together. Build a simple monthly practice scorecard: revenue collected, returns completed, average fee, software and staffing costs, outstanding invoices, and cash reserved for taxes.

Then ask three advisor-level questions: Which services are profitable? Where does work get delayed or repeated? What capacity can you add without lowering review quality?

A business loan or line of credit can help fund a sound opportunity. It cannot repair unclear numbers or make an unaffordable repayment disappear.

Before pursuing funding, get these basics straight:
1. Know exactly what the capital will pay for.
2. Estimate the return or operational benefit, and when it may arrive.
3. Map repayment against realistic cash flow, including slower months.
4. Compare total borrowing cost, fees, term, and collateral requirements.
5. Keep clean financial records so you can answer a lender's questions with confidence.

A tax professional who understands the business can help owners organize records and ask better questions. For lending terms and eligibility, speak directly with the lender and review the agreement carefully.

⏰ ATTENTION TAX PROFESSIONALS: The October 15 extension deadline is 10 days out. Here's your checklist. ⏰

If you think the season is 'over' — look at the calendar. Extension season is a season of its own, and the preparers who treat it that way are the ones who keep clients (and their sanity) through mid-October.

Your 10-day countdown checklist:

✅ PULL YOUR LIST — Every client who filed an extension. Do you have ALL of their documents, or are you still 'waiting on that one thing'?
✅ CALL THE GHOSTS — Clients who went silent since April are your biggest risk. A 2-minute 'we need your docs by Oct 8' call saves an October 14 panic — for them AND you.
✅ CHECK THE BALANCES — Estimated payments made? Refunds or balances due? Clients with a balance due need to know their payment options NOW, not on the 15th.
✅ REVIEW YOUR REVIEWS — Extension returns are often the messy ones (missing docs, life changes, amended situations). Build in review time. Don't let deadline pressure eat your accuracy standards.
✅ PLAN THE 14TH — A calm, staffed, ready-to-file final day beats a 2am scramble. Whoever's calm on the 14th wins the 15th.

One more thing — this is a CLIENT SERVICE moment, not just a deadline. How you handle these final two weeks is what clients remember when they decide who gets their return next year. Calm, prepared, proactive = trusted advisor. Scrambling and last-minute = 'maybe I'll shop around.'
