I once passed on buying a watch I really wanted. But in the end… Jay “gave” me a Rolex in his own special way.
Let me tell you the story.
The watch in this picture was something I really wanted. But at the time, I chose to use that money to get a life insurance policy for myself so that Jay will have something in the event something happen to me.
For me, preparing for his future was something I needed to prioritize. The watch could wait.
When Jay found out, he drew me a “Rolex” for Mother’s Day.
He drew a circle rolling—“roll”—and added an “X.” Put them together, and you get “Rolex.” Isn’t that the sweetest thing?
In his card, Jay also thanked me for taking care of him and helping with his homework, even when I was busy.
What touched me most was knowing… he noticed the things I did for him.
Of course, I still wanted that watch. Being true to yourself means acknowledging what you want—and knowing what matters most at that moment.
We can enjoy the things we love while also preparing for the people we care about.
But that “Rolex” Jay drew for me? It’s a gift no price tag could ever measure.
Have you ever received a simple gift from your child that you’ve treasured ever since? I’d love to hear about it.
