Why do families put off estate conversations?

For some, it's believing there aren't enough assets to need one. For others, it's procrastination, confusion, cost, or simply feeling uncomfortable bringing it up.

Whatever the reason, waiting can make an already difficult conversation even harder.

Here are some practical ways to start the conversation with aging parents before a crisis makes it necessary: https://jmbfinmgrs.advisorwebsite.com/blog/when-your-parents-need-you-be-adult

The retirement conversation couples avoid is often not about money.

It is about timing, identity, health, family, home, purpose, and what daily life will actually look like once work no longer provides the structure it once did.

A financial strategy matters. But so does making sure both partners have had an honest conversation about what they want retirement to feel like. Read more: https://tinyurl.com/ypknfkdc

Here's the challenge: there's no deadline.

No law is expiring. No clock is ticking. Which is exactly why it's easy to put off reviewing your estate documents.

Trusts built years ago to capture a lower exemption before it disappeared may now be doing nothing useful or quietly creating new costs, like blocking a step-up in cost basis for your heirs. Beneficiary designations, powers of attorney, and named executors can all become outdated over time.

Sometimes it starts with one question over dinner: "When did we last look at this?" We're glad to help with the conversation from there.

Did you know your Medicare plan can change for next year even if you don't touch a thing?

Each fall, Medicare Advantage and Part D plans send a letter called the Annual Notice of Change.

It arrives by September 30 and outlines what's different starting January 1: premiums, copays, network doctors, and covered medications.

Most people never open it. A large share of Medicare beneficiaries never compare their options.

Open Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7. Take the time to note what is changing for the coming year.

Yom Kippur is a sacred time of reflection, atonement, and renewal.

For those observing, it is a time to pause, look inward, make amends, and consider how to move forward with greater intention.

In a world that often moves quickly, moments of reflection can remind us of what matters most: our relationships, our values, our responsibilities, and the kind of life we want to build.

Wishing all who observe a meaningful Yom Kippur and an easy fast.

Twenty-five years ago today, the world stopped.

Never forget the lives lost. The families who carried on without them. The first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation.

And the unity that followed.

Some days aren't about lessons or takeaways. They're just about remembering.

As sundown approaches tomorrow, Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year.

More than a simple celebration, this is a traditional season of deep introspection.

To hit pause, reflect honestly on the year that passed, and focus on what matters most: family, community, and our core values.

To all our clients, professional partners, and friends celebrating this weekend…

Most families think they have until next June to file the FAFSA.

For a lot of state and school aid, that's already too late.

FAFSA for the 2027-28 school year is set to open on October 1.

The federal deadline runs through June 30, 2028, but most states and colleges set their own deadlines, some as early as January, and aid is often awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

File in October, and you're near the front of the line. Wait until spring, and the aid you were counting on may already be spoken for.

Tip: Create your FSA ID at StudentAid.gov before October 1 arrives, ahead of the day-one rush.

If you have a student applying to college this year, make a note in your calendar.
