Approaching Retirement? Start Here The years around retirement are when alignment matters.
Nobody tells widows this part of the story. The “marriage penalty” in the tax law was really a two-income-earner setup. When one spouse dies, the brackets can drop in half - even if your income also dropped. So you can be making less money and still get pushed into a higher tax bracket. This is why tax planning matters before life changes, not after.

Go from Good Intentions––to a Great Legacy Plan This 15-minute read could change your family's future.
Social Security spousal benefits are not always 50%. This is one of those rules people hear wrong all the time. Here’s the part that could trip people up:
You only get the full 50% if you wait until your full retirement age.
Your spouse also has to have turned it on at their full retirement age.
If one of you files early, that spousal amount can be lower.
And there’s one more thing people miss - you only claim spousal benefits if it’s better than your own benefit. When you decide to turn it on can change the whole math.

Most people think diversification means mixing investments. But if all your money is sitting in the same tax bucket, you may not be as diversified as you think. That’s the part I see get missed all the time. Your portfolio shouldn’t just look balanced - it should be built with taxes in mind too.
The longer you wait, the more your money can grow... and the more tax you may owe later.
That shift to RMD age 73 and 75 for some people born in 1960 or later wasn’t a gift. It can actually mean a bigger tax bill down the road. A lot of “good” tax advice only looks smart today. The real question is: what does it cost you later? Worth thinking about before you keep deferring just because everyone says to.
That one IRA withdrawal can hit way harder than you think.
Here’s the part people miss:
A small withdrawal can push more of your Social Security into the taxable zone.
That means one extra dollar can create way more than one dollar of taxable income.
In some cases, it feels like the tax system is doubling the pain.
This is why “just pull a little more” is not always a simple decision. If you’re planning withdrawals, the order matters. What’s your biggest retirement tax question right now?

Our team had a great time volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank! 🍊 Together with fellow volunteers, we helped pack 35,000+ pounds of oranges for our local community.
We enjoyed it so much that we want to do it again, and next time we’d love for our clients to join us!
