Tax season is officially open đ
As of today, the IRS is accepting tax returns.
If you have back taxes, unfiled returns, or an ongoing IRS issue, it is important to understand how filing this year can affect your situation. In some cases, filing without clarity can restart collections activity or limit certain resolution options.
This is not tax preparation advice, just a reminder to pause and make sure you understand your position before submitting.
For many people, filing is straightforward. For others, a little awareness can prevent unnecessary complications.
Happy filing! Send us a DM with any IRS/Resolution questions!
TaxNeta
TaxNeta simplifies tax resolution with clear solutions, empowering your financial future & confidence
Most tax problems donât come from people being careless or irresponsible.
They usually come from life happening.
A job change.
A business that had a tough year.
Paperwork that was confusing or missed.
A letter that showed up and felt overwhelming.
If youâre dealing with the IRS right now, it does not mean you failed.
It means you are navigating a system that was never designed to feel simple.
The good news
Most tax situations have more than one solution.
Clarity almost always brings relief.
Important Tax Deadlines to Keep in Mind!
Staying on top of tax deadlines can help you avoid penalties and last-minute stress. Hereâs a quick breakdown of key dates:
Individual Income Tax Returns (W2):
Typically due April 15, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday. If you need more time, Form 4868 allows an extension until October 15. Keep in mind that an extension to file does not extend the time to pay.
Independent Contractors, Gig Workers, and Self-Employed Individuals:
Required to make quarterly estimated tax payments throughout the year to avoid underpayment penalties. These payments are generally due around April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15 of the following year.
Partnerships and S-Corps:
The standard filing deadline is March 15 for calendar-year businesses. If needed, Form 7004 grants a six month extension, moving the deadline to September 15. Fiscal year businesses file by the 15th day of the third month after the year end.
Planning ahead ensures compliance and minimizes stress. If you have questions about any of these deadlines, feel free to ask in the comments.

đ¨ Beneficial Ownership Reporting on Hold: What It Means for You đ¨
On December 3, 2024, a federal court blocked the new rule requiring businesses to disclose their âbeneficial ownersâ individuals who own at least 25% or have significant control. This rule was designed to increase transparency and fight fraud but is temporarily on hold due to legal challenges.
If you run a small LLC, family business, or multiple entities like real estate LLCs, you may need to prepare if the rule is reinstated. While larger companies and nonprofits are exempt, small businesses could face fines of $500/day or criminal penalties for noncompliance.
Now is a good time to review your ownership records and understand if you qualify as a âbeneficial owner.â Staying informed helps avoid penalties and last-minute stress.
At TaxNeta, weâre here to help with compliance questions or business documentation. Stay tuned for updates as this case develops!
Corporate Transparency Act Blocked Nationwide by Texas Court The Corporate Transparency Act and its implementing regulations, which require US business entities to report stakeholder information to the Treasury Department, were preliminarily blocked nationwide by a Texas federal court on Tuesday.
