I'm super thankful I was able to spend my Thanksgiving with my family back in my hometown and really excited for Christmas. For those that aren't familiar - Bishop is a small town in the back country of California - I loved growing up here! Dirt roads, rivers and mountains would give us the opportunities to camp, fish, boulder, snowboard and have late night hot spring adventures. Looking back, I am really happy that I made so many close friendships that only got stronger as time went on. This year the small things have really become so important to me.

I'm really happy that I was able to hit Mammoth Mountain and get some runs in while catching up with old friends I haven’t seen in way too long. Life often gets hectic and is always changing - it happens to everyone - before you know it years have passed. I want to be much more proactive by making time for friends because its so easy to let life get in the way and become strangers.

What are you thankful for? What is important to you?

Talking To Your Parents About their Retirement 11/28/2022

7 Ways Your Advisor Can Help You Remain Grounded During Turbulent Times 11/21/2022

Growing up my parents didn't have anyone to look to for financial advice. I am the son of two Mexican immigrants who worked day in and day out - rarely having time for themselves or for us. I remember playing football in high school but my parents couldn't make most of my games because they were stuck working at our family's restaurant. I'm super proud of my parents and what they were able to build but there is plenty to be concerned about. Like most people, my parents believed that working hard was the key - in reality times have changed and much more needs to be considers. It's not enough to work hard - we need to work with a strategy to really build the lives we want.
I often wonder how things might have been different if they had someone to educate and guide their decisions. Generally, we inherit the same financial habits that our parents have. I've been with them every step of the way and they are a core reason as to why I do what I do - I want to help make financial education and planning much more accessible.
I am really lucky to have time on my side to still change, bounce back, and develop my financial plans - but I often worry about our parent's generation that might be starting too late.
When is the last time you checked on your parents and their financial plans?
During the holiday season I highly urge you to get the conversation started - it is so important to start talking to your family about finances - children included!
If you're not sure how to get the conversation going - reach out, I am more than happy to share some resources and ideas!
