One of the biggest bookkeeping mistakes I see? 👀

Treating sales tax like it's income.

If you sell taxable goods or services, the sales tax you collect does *not* belong to your business.

You're simply collecting it on behalf of your state until it's time to remit it.

That's why it generally shouldn't be recorded as income.

Instead, it's usually recorded as a current liability until you pay it to the appropriate tax authority.

It's a small bookkeeping detail that can make a big difference in keeping your financial reports accurate.

That includes your legal business name, entity type, fiscal year, EIN, and last year's tax return.

→ A list of every account you'll want to connect

Think bank accounts, credit cards, payment processors, loans, and any software your business relies on.
