Our office on 15th was spared any significant damage… but the 250-year-old tree next to the property came down last night. I hope the city has a big ol’ chainsaw!

Latest 5am update: no change on the hurricane path. We’re supposed to start receiving Tropical-force winds (40mph+) at 10:30am, rain bands throughout the day, storm at its worst for us at 8pm. Storm surge is the biggest problem: 5-8’, which would be a record for St Pete. At high tide (early) Friday morning I could foresee water coming to our corner (Walnut). Our house sits at 12’ above sea level. So for us, it seems like wind and rain won’t be the biggest concern, but area flooding could be a problem… possible power outages, too. I fear that bigger impacts are in North Florida, where the tidal surge is unimaginable.

Baseball bonanza: in the last 24 hours I’ve enjoyed watching baseball from Fenway Park’s Green Monster (Boston) and from the Home Plate Club at the Trop (St Pete). Vastly different experiences!

Debby update: all is well! Wind hasn’t been bad, but enough to clean-out lots of leaves and small branches off the trees… a tree blew over a few blocks away, blocking the street. It’s been raining for the last 10 hours, and should continue through tomorrow… water is to the edge of the street next to the bayou, so may have a slight flooding problem in the morning… police are already setting out cones so motorists don’t drive through the water. In summary: so far so good!
