Your financial statements can tell you what happened.

But what if they could also help you decide what to do next?

As a business grows, having someone simply record transactions and prepare taxes may not be enough. Owners need to understand profitability, cash flow, KPIs, tax strategy, and what the numbers mean for the decisions they’re making right now.

That’s one of the biggest differences between looking at your books and having ongoing accounting insight.

Our latest article looks at how monthly accounting can give business owners year-round insight into taxes, operations, profitability, and long-term planning — so you’re not making decisions based on what happened months ago.

Because good financial information is more useful when you can actually use it to run your business.

“How much should accounting and payroll actually cost my business?”

It’s a pretty reasonable question — and not always an easy one to answer.

Pricing can depend on things like how often you run payroll, how many employees you have, how many states you operate in, your transaction volume, and the complexity of your accounting needs.

That’s why we built our Pricing Calculator to give business owners a starting point.

Enter a few details about your business and you’ll get an estimated range for monthly accounting and payroll costs. It’s not a commitment or a final quote — just a way to get a better idea of what your investment could look like before you take the next step.

If you’re trying to budget for outsourced accounting or payroll, give it a try.

Sometimes having a local accounting team matters.

Not because everything needs to happen in person, but because it’s nice to know you have the option when you need it.

With our new Aurora, Illinois office, CSI can now offer Chicagoland businesses both local, face-to-face support and the same online accounting, payroll, tax, and consulting services we provide to businesses across the country.

That means you can meet with your accountant in person, get help navigating Illinois and local regulations, or manage your services digitally — whatever works best for your business.

Our new Chicago-area page has more information about our services, our Aurora office, and the team now serving the area.

Taking on government-funded construction work can open up new opportunities for your business — but it can also come with payroll requirements you may not be used to.

Certified payroll is different from regular payroll. There are prevailing wage requirements, fringe benefits, weekly reporting, and specific forms like WH-347 to keep track of.

If your business is working on a government-funded construction project for the first time, understanding what needs to be reported — and who is responsible for it — is important.

Our latest video breaks down certified payroll, who may need to file it, how prevailing wages and fringe benefits work, and how a payroll provider can help with the process.

We’re excited to share some big news from CSI Accounting & Payroll.

As of September 1, 2026, CSI officially acquired Taxxsolutions in Aurora, Illinois, giving us our third office and expanding our presence into the Chicagoland area.

But for Taxxsolutions clients, this transition isn’t about starting over.

The plan is to keep the existing team on board, honor current service agreements and pricing, and keep monthly accounting and payroll services practically the same. Taxxsolutions owner Darlene Belter will also remain involved during the transition before her retirement.

Our goal is simple: grow the CSI team and make the transition as seamless as possible for the clients and staff who have built Taxxsolutions into what it is today.

We’re excited to welcome the Taxxsolutions team to CSI and officially call Aurora home.

Hiring your first employee in another state? Payroll is only part of the process.

Depending on the state, you may need to set up new accounts for income tax withholding, unemployment insurance, and other state-specific payroll programs.

And this is one of those tasks that can be easy to overlook until something goes wrong.

Our latest article looks at what happens when you’re using ADP to handle payroll, who is responsible for setting up those state tax accounts, and what can happen when an account is missing or set up incorrectly.

We also explain how CSI approaches state tax account setup and what hands-on payroll support can look like when you’re expanding into a new state.

If your business is hiring across state lines, it’s worth knowing what your payroll provider actually handles — and what still falls on you.

When you hire in a new state, ADP may make you set up state income tax withholding, unemployment, & state-specific program accounts. Or CSI can do it for you. Let's discuss setup, assistance, & the consequences of doing it wrong.

Not every business needs the same type of payroll service.

Some businesses are perfectly comfortable using payroll software and handling the process in-house. Others need someone to take payroll taxes, filings, and compliance off their plate. And for businesses with more complex HR and benefits needs, a PEO may make more sense.

The important part is understanding what you’re actually paying for — and how much responsibility still falls on you.

We broke down the three main levels of payroll support: SaaS payroll software, full-service payroll, and PEOs, including who each option tends to work best for and when it might make sense to move from one to another.

If you’re wondering whether your current payroll setup is giving you the right level of support, this is a good place to start.

Let's compare the 3 levels of small business payroll support: software as a service (SaaS), full-service (managed) payroll, & PEO (Professional Employer Organization), and discuss how to know which is best for you.
