Based on data from 30,000 facilities, the Q3 2026 report tracks the metrics shaping self-storage performance nationwide:

- Occupancy held at 78.1%.
- Average length of stay reached 19.0 months.
- The average 10x10 move-in rate increased to $109.33.
- Move-in volume softened across every region compared with Q2.

The year-over-year view shows why the market remains resilient: customers are staying longer, occupancy is slightly higher, and operators are maintaining rate stability even as new leasing volume becomes more competitive.

Another fantastic SSA Fall in the books! We loved seeing and connecting with you all in Vegas last week.

AI continues to dominate the conversation in self-storage. Storable’s own Chuck Gordon hosted the panel The Operator’s Advantage: Turning Data and AI into Everyday Action featuring Raheem Amer of MyPlace Self Storage, Andrew Capranos formerly of 10 Federal, and Anastasia Malagisi of Safeguard Self Storage.

The strongest takeaway from SSA was not that every operator needs every new AI tool. It was that the advantage will go to teams that connect data, technology and human judgment in practical ways.
