They excel in their careers, efficiently handle responsibilities at home, attend little league games, volunteer at the local food bank and still manage to make it to the yoga class on time! Women, today, also have a lot working against them. Take for instance their life span. A woman today is expected to live about eight to nine years longer than their male counterparts. Over 70% of nursing home residents are women, with almost 50% of women aged 65 and older being widows. Women continue to be the primary caregiver for an aging parent or a young child. As a result, they stay out of the workforce for an average of 15% of their working years. This not just results in setbacks in their careers, but also negatively impacts their long-term savings such as 401(k) plans and social security benefits. So in short, women are expected to live longer… with less money. As a result, more and more women are seeking financial guidance in making the right decisions to offset the setbacks and proactively take control of their future. There are more female scientists, politicians, astronauts and business-owners than ever before, and the numbers are growing. Having faced such adversity herself, Rashida Lilani CFP® feels passionately about helping other women pursue their life goals and lead a life that’s aligned with their value system, so her clients and their loved ones can live a rewarding and fulfilling life. For many Gen Xers, retirement is starting to feel less like a distant milestone and more like a looming financial reality.

The oldest members of the generation will turn 62 next year, the earliest age to claim Social Security. At the same time, many are approaching retirement with limited savings and fewer pensions than previous generations had.

The median Gen X retirement savings balance is about $107,000, while members of the generation estimate they’ll need roughly $700,000 for retirement. Social Security may also become an increasingly important source of income, with 41% of workers over 55 saying they expect it to be their primary source in retirement.

That gap is prompting some Gen Xers to rethink when they’ll stop working, how much they may need to save, and what retirement could realistically look like.

If retirement is getting closer, this may be a good time to review your savings, expected Social Security benefits, and other sources of retirement income.

🏛️ The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate last week for the first time in three years, lifting the federal funds rate a quarter point to a range of 3.75% to 4%. Most officials expect at least one more increase before the year's end.

A few things are driving the move:
▪️Energy prices have climbed amid global tensions
▪️Spending tied to AI infrastructure has surged
▪️Together, they've pushed inflation above the Fed's 2% goal

The effects reach different corners of your budget in different ways:
▪️Credit cards and auto loans tend to reprice quickly
▪️Mortgage rates track longer-term Treasury yields, which have also climbed, pushing the 30-year average to nearly 7%

💼 The labor market has held steady through it all, with unemployment at 4.1%.

This is exactly the kind of shift worth talking through together, especially anywhere it touches your own borrowing or spending decisions.

🏠 Higher mortgage rates are pushing some homebuyers to look for lower-cost alternatives.

The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage rose to 6.79%, while the average rate for a 5/1 adjustable-rate mortgage fell to 5.94%.

That gap is drawing more attention to ARMs, which made up 8% of mortgage applications last week, their highest share in five weeks.

🔑 The tradeoff is that an ARM’s rate can change later, which means the lower initial rate may come with more uncertainty down the road.

For buyers comparing mortgage options, it’s worth looking beyond the starting rate and understanding how the loan could change over time.

Mortgage rates continue to rise, pushing some buyers to riskier, adjustable-rate loans in order to find savings. Rates are at the highest level since June 2025.
