Do not panic and do not automatically agree to the first payment amount you hear.
The first thing I want to know is:
• What tax years are involved?
• Are all required returns filed?
• Is the amount correct?
• Has the IRS started collection activity? • And what does your financial picture actually look like?
The IRS has different resolution paths, and the right one depends on the facts.
A payment plan may make sense.
An Offer in Compromise may be worth evaluating.
In a true hardship situation, collection may be temporarily delayed.
The mistake is choosing a solution before you understand the case.
If you owe $20,000 or more and you don’t want to figure this out alone,
comment "TAX" or apply to work with Johnson & Associates.
