On this Monday morning, I woke up to a story about a professional wrestler who passed away. He wrestled on Saturday night and passed away on Sunday, at the young age of 40. He was in amazing shape, or at least that's what his body and athleticism showed.
When I hear about someone passing away, it makes me question my own mortality, and it should make you question yours. How am I living my life? What's on my "bucket list"? Am I working toward something? What do I want to do with the rest of my life? What's important to me, and what do I need to do for my loved ones while also taking care of myself?
This takes into account your health, finances, family, and every other aspect of life. You're here one day and gone the next. That's how fragile life is and will be. Not just "can be," but "is."
One of my Stoic teachings is the concept of "Memento Mori": remember you must die. To me, it's a powerful reminder that teaches you to live your life.
Ask yourself: if something happens to me today, have I accomplished everything I wanted to? Have I worked on those goals, taken better care of my health, "done the thing," loved to my fullest ability, taken care of my loved ones, and set them up for success? And so many other questions.
If you don't have your health, you can't have the other things in your life. If you're not financially stable, you can't provide for your life. If you're not in good mental health or you're stuck in life, you can't do either.
So take a step back and figure out what direction you want or need to go in. Create a plan, and create a better life, or keep working on it. Life is like a painting: each brushstroke creates direction. Only you can make that brushstroke.
The thought behind this post on my professional page was for everyone to take a step back and think about their lives and make sure that the important tasks and checkbox are getting marked off.
Never wait to start improving your health, wealth, relationships and various aspects of your life.
