โš ๏ธ Money is one of the most consistently cited sources of stress in America.

For caregivers, that weight often increases! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Having a clearer picture of where things stand can help ease some of the uncertainty that makes financial stress feel heaviest in the first place.

There's no clean solution to money stress.

Most of it is caused by the unknown. The uncertainty.

World Mental Health Day recognizes just how deeply finances can impact our well-being (and vice versa).

If financial stress has been sitting in the background of your life this year, a conversation with a professional can go a long way, be it a mental health professional or a financial professional. Pursuing comfort, understanding, and compassion is a team sport.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to prioritize health.

Early detection through regular screenings is one of the most effective tools we have in the fight against breast cancer.

Here are a few small things we can do this October:

โœ… Schedule your annual screening if you haven't yet

โœ… Educate yourself and others on risk factors and preventative lifestyle habits

โœ… Support research and organizations dedicated to advancing breast cancer prevention and care

Taking charge of your health today makes all the difference for tomorrow. ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

September brought a rebound in private sector hiring, with employers adding 90,000 jobs, according to ADP. That's more than the 68,000 economists expected and well above August's revised gain of 36,000.

๐Ÿฅ Education and health services led the way with 55,000 new jobs, followed by leisure and hospitality (22,000), manufacturing (17,000), and construction (15,000).

Not every industry shared in the gains. Financial activities lost 16,000 jobs, while professional and business services shed 11,000.

Pay continued to grow, too, with base pay rising 3.2% and gross pay increasing 4.7% from a year earlier.

The report offers another look at the labor market as the Federal Reserve weighs employment trends alongside persistent inflation.

Private job creation picked up in September after a brief slowdown.

Stocks finished the third quarter mixed. The S&P 500 gained 2.03%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.47%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 2.70%. Halloween is next on the calendar, with U.S. consumers expected to spend \$13.5 billion USD this year and 6.26 million Canadian children in their trick-or-treating years.

Stocks were mixed in the third quarter as economic, geopolitical, and corporate earnings news pushed the broad market higher while weighing on the Dow Industrials.

There's a reason so many women business owners half-joke that their real title is "everything."

More women than ever are starting and running businesses, and they're doing it at a faster clip than the market overall.

Census data show women now own more than 14 million businesses nationwide, a number that's grown 26 percent since 2012, compared with 19 percent growth for businesses as a whole.

A lot of that growth is happening online, where women-owned businesses tend to be more digitally integrated than those owned by men.

It also means millions of women are managing key decisions from scratch:

๐Ÿ’ผ How income gets paid (salary, distributions, or owner draws) and what that means at budget time

๐Ÿ’ผ Which retirement vehicle fits, and how much room there is to contribute

๐Ÿ’ผ How healthcare, disability, and other insurance get sourced without an employer default

๐Ÿ’ผ How the business gets valued, and what a sale or transition would actually look like

๐Ÿ’ผ How personal finances stay untangled from the business's finances

Wearing a tall stack of hats doesn't make entrepreneurship harder than it's worth. Plenty of women running these businesses would say the trade-offs are part of the deal. But it does mean the hats keep stacking up, one on top of the other.

This month is a good time to tip our own hats to the women doing it all at once.

๐ŸŒ  October is bringing a little celestial entertainment! The annual Draconid meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of October 8โ€“9, with excellent viewing conditions thanks to an almost moonless sky.

Unlike many meteor showers that are best viewed in the early morning hours, the Draconids are an evening event. This year's peak is expected around 9 PM EDT on October 8, so there's no need to stay up until dawn. ๐ŸŒŒ

Here's how to make the most of it:
๐Ÿ”ญ Find a dark spot. Head somewhere away from city lights with a clear view of the sky.
โœจ Give your eyes time to adjust. Allow about 30 minutes to get used to the darkness.
๐ŸŒ™ Leave the equipment at home. You won't need a telescope or binoculars. Just look up and take in as much of the sky as possible.
The Draconids typically produce around five meteors per hour under ideal conditions, although they've surprised skywatchers with spectacular displays in the past.

The shower runs from October 6โ€“10, so you may have several opportunities to catch a shooting star, weather permitting.
Will you be watching? ๐ŸŒ

Good news! The Draconid meteor shower peaks under almost moonless skies on Oct. 8-9.

Cyber criminals pay extra attention to accounts tied to money.

A 2026 FBI study found that over 12,400 of those victims lost more than $100,000 each, and the average reported loss across elder fraud victims that year was $38,500. Here are a few habits to fine-tune your digital security this month:

๐Ÿ” Turn on multi-factor authentication everywhere it's offered. Yes, itโ€™s annoying, but according to a 2026 CISA report, using it makes an account roughly 99 percent less likely to be broken into. It only takes a minute to set up.

๐Ÿ” Give every account its own password. Reusing one password means one leaked login unlocks everything else. A password manager handles this without requiring you to remember dozens of them.

๐Ÿ” When you go to the dentist, put a reminder on your calendar to also change your passwords. Changing passwords often makes your accounts just that much harder to reach.

๐Ÿ” Pause before clicking. Phishing remains the most commonly reported cybercrime in the country, more than any other category the FBI tracks.

๐Ÿ” Check statements regularly, and turn on account alerts. Catching something small and wrong early is a lot easier to unwind than catching something large and wrong months later.

๐Ÿ” Consider freezing your credit if you're not actively applying for new credit or loans. This takes 15 minutes, one time.

None of this requires becoming a security expert. Pick the one or two that you've been putting off, and do it this week.

What's one financial decision you've made that helped you feel more prepared for your future?

For many of the people we work with, it's not a single investment or product; it's taking the time to create an overall strategy.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ October is Financial Planning Monthโ€”which is all about how the pieces of your financial picture fit together to help pursue your financial goals.

It's about putting together a comprehensive approach that manages your investments and retirement, provides for your loved onesโ€”all while staying flexible enough to adjust as things change.

๐Ÿ’ก If you've been meaning to update your strategy or to create one for the first time, it's never too late to start.

A little planning today can make a big difference down the road. Visit www.prinvestadvisors.com to learn more.

Some financial decisions get a second chance. A handful don't.

โ–ช๏ธ When you actually retire. In EBRI's 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey, 46 percent of retirees left the workforce earlier than they expected.

โ–ช๏ธ Stepping into a parent's finances. A 2026 Care.com report found sandwich-generation caregiving duties typically begin around age 34.

โ–ช๏ธ Receiving an inheritance. Ohio State research found nearly one in five people who inherited $100,000 or more had spent or lost the entire amount within two years.

โ–ช๏ธ Selling a business. For a typical owner, roughly 80 percent of their net worth is tied up in the business itself, per the Exit Planning Institute.

โ–ช๏ธ Writing (or updating) a will. Only 24 percent of Americans currently have a will, down from 33 percent in 2022, according to Caring.com.

None of these moments announce themselves on schedule. The families who handle them well are usually the ones who started talking years before circumstances forced their hand.

๐Ÿ“Œ Higher rates sting borrowers, but they can be a real win for savers.

As rates rise, banks may increase the yields they offer on savings products to attract deposits. The average U.S. savings account still pays just 0.64% annual percentage yield. Some high-yield accounts are paying more than six times that, up to 4.2%, for the exact same deposit.

๐Ÿ”Ž Certificates of deposit, or CDs, can offer even higher rates, but the tradeoff is access: your money is locked in for a set term, and pulling it out early usually costs a penalty.

Higher yields donโ€™t erase the effects of inflation, and they wonโ€™t necessarily transform household finances. But if your savings account is still earning close to that 0.64% average, that gap alone might be worth a second look.

The Federal Reserve recently raised interest rates for the first time since 2023.
