💰 Starting in 2027, the IRS is introducing a new retirement savings benefit!
It’s called the Saver’s Match, and it could help eligible taxpayers boost their retirement savings.
Here’s how it works:
✅ The federal government will match 50% of eligible retirement contributions, up to $2,000 in contributions.
✅ That means you could receive up to $1,000 per year toward your retirement!
✅ The match will be deposited into an eligible retirement account rather than issued as a tax refund.
💵 What are the income limitations for 2027?
To qualify for the full match, your adjusted gross income (AGI) must be:
🔹 Single: $20,500 or less
🔹 Head of Household: $30,750 or less
🔹 Married Filing Jointly: $41,000 or less
The match gradually phases out above these amounts, with no match available once AGI reaches:
🔹 Single: $35,500
🔹 Head of Household: $53,250
🔹 Married Filing Jointly: $71,000
Here’s the important part: Unlike the current Saver’s Credit, which reduces your tax liability, the new Saver’s Match actually adds money to your retirement savings.
📅 The program begins with eligible contributions made in 2027, with the first matching deposits generally expected in 2028.
At HM Tax Advisors, we’re keeping an eye on these changes so our clients can take advantage of opportunities to save more for retirement.
